2000 rebuild part suggestions
«
on:
April 14, 2009, 03:38:42 PM »
The crashed 2000 900ie I picked up is apart, the engine is in being welded where it cracked at the rear bolt mount and the frame is being straightened where it was tweaked at the rear. The tank and fender go to the painter tomorrow and I've picked up several of the parts I needed and only have a few things left to get. I'm looking for some replacement suggestions.
Does anybody have any ideas for the gauges (instrument cluster) or am I stuck looking for a used OEM set?
Does anybody have any suggestions for replacement front brake lines?, as the stock ones broke where they mount to the levers. Should I look for used used, stock lines or should I upgrade?
When I get everything back from paint and repair and start the rebuild, I'm sure I'll have many more questions to ask in the Tech section...........but I promise to post pics.

You're likely to have a hard time finding used OEM gauges for your Monster as the 00-01 M900ie bikes used gauges specific to these years. The 900SSie tach won't work, although the speedo may. I looked high and low for a used tach to replace the one I damaged in a crash and eventually gave up and bought a NOS one. It was spendy, but it plugged right in. You may have better luck than I did finding used Monster gauges though.
If you end up looking to the aftermarket, check these guys out:

Yeah, the 2000-2001 Tachs were single-fire, so any set up from years prior will only read 1/2 the RPM it should and later model years aren't compatible.
You might find one on fleabay, but I highly recommend the motogadget as it's a sexy beast.
I have one of the old octopod tachs, but I want too much money for it (because I don't really want to sell it
)

I put a custom gauge on my 2000 M900Sie from Motogadget.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the NOS unit? I did a little google-fu but couldn't find anything.
the ChronoClassic from Motogadget looks fantastic. Is it a fairly easy install?

Sorry, I don't have any experience with the Motogadget Chronoclassic gauge. I just really really like the looks of it. If I was in the market for both gauges after my smashup I have ended up with that one for sure. As it was, my speedo was fine so i didn't have an excuse.

actually, the gauges are ok..........it's just the housing that's smashed to bits.
I'm thinking some sort of custom housing.
