Ovechkin is like the lion voltron while Crosby is like the vehicle voltron.

Guess they have the douche meter turned WAY up on that lion voltron then...

ok, so I have a question..

I see a player release the puck in neutral, kinda leaned over, opposing player coming in to check, hands down, stick down.

checking player didn't stride into him, and because of the attacker's posture, contact to the right side of the head is made by the checker's elbow.

he gets right up bleeding on the LEFT side of his head (visor to ice?) and the checking player gets 5 for interference and the game.

???

are hockey players not allowed to just bleed a bit anymore?

charging an opponent's head after the puck is long gone and leading with the elbow is interference and/or elbowing. drawing blood from contact will often make it a double minor. at the beginning of the season, the league and NHLPA wanted to end the head shots, and agreed to make it a 5 min major. the game misconduct is for blatant attempts to injure another player.

there's a difference between finishing a check w/ a hard body shot and aiming for the head with an intent to injure a player not playing the puck. that was a massive cheap shot.

I'm just curious about the semantic of the call. he was, for all intents, the puck carrier.

major for elbowing, I can deal with. how is it interference when you hit the last attacker w/the puck?

Magnus

maybe this will clear it up for you:

Pick: A “pick” is the action of a player or goalkeeper who checks an opponent who is not in possession of the puck and is unaware of the impending check/hit. A player who is aware of an impending hit, not deemed to be a legal “battle for the puck,” may not be interfered with by a player or goalkeeper delivering a “pick.” A player or goalkeeper delivering a “pick” is one who moves into an opponent's path without initially having body position, thereby taking him out of the play. When this is done, an interference penalty shall be assessed.

56.4 Major Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence, to a player or goalkeeper guilty of interfering with an opponent (see 56.5).

56.5 Game Misconduct Penalty â€" When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.

hudler was looking in the other direction and had already passed the puck...  it was a pure cheap shot.

my point was that he released the puck, but there was no 'new' puck carrier yet, so wouldn't it not be interference?

I'd hardly have called that hit a pick. he elbowed him, sure...

make the beast with two backs it, what do I know?  :-\ I'm a goalie
