I have that Ted pic (black and white, autographed) on my mantle in my living room. If you haven't, check out the book Olympia put out. It's titled "7". It's great.

not familiar... I'll def' check it out, thanks! [thumbsup]

The winged wheel being smothered by a large, realistic looking octopus.

Maybe you could get the winged wheel with a penguin make the beast with two backsing it instead.   [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

because the team made up of third and sixth round draft picks that won 4 cups in 11 years lost one game by one goal to a team full of first round draft picks?

No, because the team that was clearly more talented and deeper lost to a team that worked harder and wanted it more.

fixed  ;)

buddy of mine mentioned an article about the red wings european scouting strategy... seems they have a knack for finding and drafting younger talent, then leaving them in europe's top leagues to develop before bringing them up to the NHL.

whereas everyone else likes to fight over 'who's hot now' in the first round

and really, that is make the beast with two backsing brilliant, so props to them  [drink]

with the way detroit plays, you're not getting many early picks, so you gotta find a way to stay on top. and they do it well.

Honestly, the Red Wings were pretty broken by the time they went into this series. Lidstrom had a severe injury from the Chicago series, Datsyuk was playing on a broken foot. We were down two of our best PKs in Lilja and Kopecky. I'm impressed they were able to go 7 games.

Here's a breakdown of the injuries:

• Nicklas Lidstrom: He was speared in the testicles by Patrick Sharp during Game 3 against Chicago and underwent surgery on the area two days later. he Missed Games 4 and 5 against Chicago, then returned and played every game of the Cup finals.

• Rafalski: He ruptured a disk in his back between the first and second round but returned for Game 6 against Anaheim. “It got to the point where he could play again,” Holland said, “but if had been the regular season, he would have been out another week or two. He played through the pain of a herniated disk.”

• Kris Draper: He missed the first 10 games of the playoffs after taking a stick to the throat that tore cartilage in the neck area, Holland said. “As a precaution, we didn't want him to get hit in the neck and have something go down the air pipe wrong.” Draper was out from Game 4 against Chicago to Game 5 against Pittsburgh because of a pulled groin.

• Pavel Datsyuk: Suffered a charley horse when he was hit along the boards and also was hit by a slap shot in his foot during Game 2 against Chicago, causing him to miss seven games. “The charley horse turned out to be more significant,” Holland said. “He never was 100% -- he didn't have any thrust. A charley horse can be a 4-6-week injury, but he pushed through to play.”

• Dan Cleary: Played through a groin pull suffered in Game 4 against Pittsburgh. “He was very sore after Game 4, and we didn't expect him to play in Game 5,” Holland said. “An MRI showed he had a significant groin injury, but he wanted to play.”

• Tomas Kopecky: Needed surgery after he fractured his right orbital bone following fight with Francois Beauchemin in Game 4 against Anaheim. Missed the rest of the playoffs.

Also, Andreas Lilja (a key to the PK) was out the entire playoffs and still suffers from concussion symptoms.

Wow! I haven't checked this thread out for a while..not since the cup finals began at least.

I live about 30 miles north of The City of Champions (Pittsburgh...for those who might be uninformed). I was, of course, rooting for the Pens and know that Detroit is a great team and an awsome challenge.

But Wow!, what a bunch of excuse makers and whiners !! Admit it, you were beaten by a better team. Get over it...Hockeytown, Schmokeytown. Da Burgh is, once again, The City of Champions.

I'd credit Pittsburgh for having more endurance, but not for being the better TEAM. It was the Crosby/Malkin show (even though Talbot and Scuderi got to carry the mail).

Trust me, if you pay attention long enough to Detroit fans, you will get used to their whining and excuses whenever they get their asses handed to them in the playoffs by any team. It doesn't matter what year, who their goalie is, who the refs are, its never the fact that they got beat by a better team. They always get beat by injuries, refs, cheating, or anything else they can think of.

I'm very glad to see them get their asses handed to them in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, at home.
The save by Fleury at the end of the game was just perfect.

How long until September/October? ;)
