A long long time ago..... I loved to read. Today....not so much. I kinda miss it.

Michelle loves to read, so much so, she belongs to two separate book clubs (non Oprah approved)

I thought it might be fun if we had an on-line DMF book club.

We pick one book a month the read, then after the month is up, we pick another book to read, and so on and so on.

Each month we start a single tread dedicated to discussing the previous months book.

what say you?
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

Some people call 911..... some people are 911

a few of us are in grad school. I don't know about them, but I'm reading pretty much constantly. It's a great idea I wouldn't be able to participate in at this time.

I'm all out of pahlaniuk and moore, looking for something new.   well, after I finish 1984. I had forgotten how much I liked orwell

+1 weirdo!  Love sci-fi but love other stuff too.   [thumbsup]  I don't have time at the moment, but should have some time this summer and would love to participate.   :D
Inara: (pissed) "What did I say to you about barging into my shuttle?"

Mal: "That it was manly and impulsive?"

Inara: "Yes, precisely. Only the exact phrase I used was 'don't'."

I like Orwell's non-fiction a lot. Homage to Catalonia and Road to Wigan Pier are some of his best works.

my wife would most likely be interested.

She is already in 2 local book clubs, whats one more?

I was going to join the local one, but I only enjoy non-fiction.

By joining others Hate Clubs, it boosts my self-esteem.

i read for fun. and i read a lot, like several books a week.
book clubs remind me too much of high school.
dissecting the work, trying to find meaning that may or may not have been intended.
not my cup of tea...

OTOH, if it was a book recommendation thread, i would be into it. i am always looking for new inspirations.

If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

You cannot argue with crazy because crazy is not willing to be convinced. Hell, it's not even willing to listen to the arguments.

I like discussing books but not the way most people do.   I like to discuss the author's choices versus the characters' choices.   "why do you think the protagonist did x y and z?"   I don't know...maybe because the guy who made him up in his head wrote it that way?  I like to discuss whether the writer's choices work and why.

And it's best with some close friends over drinks.   For me the DMF is too big and too public and too unfriendly to make it enjoyable to talk/type about what I'm reading at any given time.   But cool idea and I hope it works.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

Might be an interesting idea. I need to read more, but I usually read stuff no one else likes.

I like Penthouse...

I get it for the articles. ;)
"Once you accept that a child on the autistic spectrum experiences the world in
a completely different way than you, you will be open to understand how that

"Don't piss off old people The older we get, the less 'Life in Prison' is a deterrent."

Im down.

Only if we get a politics pass though, most books I think we would read would have political undertones.  :-\
