My parents left me at the mall once. I was being whiney and they threatened to leave me and they did. They didn't go far but they went through with it. I turned out... ok...  ;D

yea, but i bet your grandpa didn't look psycho like this crazy broad.
i never got the "i'll leave you right here" threat. it was always the "i'll stop this car and come back there and beat your ass" threat.
Definitely effective.

Leave a 10 and 12-y.o. on the side of the road?  Uh, no.  Sorry, there are enough challenges with getting kids to trust their parents; abandoning them doesn't sound smart.

Shit...at 10 years old I would have just walked home. That's 5th grade...I was already riding my bike all over the place far from my house at that age.  At 12 years old (7th grade) you'd be glad to have your mom drop you off...right about then you hate your parents anyway!  [laugh]

Seriously though...that sucks and obviously isn't a good move. Sounds like she just snapped.  :-\

He Man

10 and 12 years old is not that young.  At 12 my friends and I would ditch school and take the train in to NYC.  We would wander around the streets until it was time to come home.  These two couldn't make it 3 miles?  A 45 min walk to teach them a lesson doesn't sound too unreasonable.  Would it have been better if she pulled over and smacked the shit out of them?  They obviously didn't listen when she asked them to stop.

The article is bullshit.  "upper-crust New York suburb"  "$2million house" blah blah blah.  The 12 year old caught up with the mother because she came back to look for them.  Of corse they won't say that, it wouldn't be as tragic if she did.   She found the 12yo when she went back and not the 10yo because the "good samaritan" took her to the police station right away.  Personally, I would have waited with the kid for a little bit before I took her to the police.  It's not like she dropped them off in the ghetto and said "peace out pregnant doges"... they were in a neighborhood with $2million houses.

I bet the next time they are in the car with her and she tells them to STFU, they will listen.
