I'm looking at a 2000 model monster 750, it has 11k miles and in great shape except for a nice dent on left side of tank.  It has some not so attractive looking saddle bags on it but that might be a good thing.  Other than the dent, it looks great and runs perfect.  All for $2985.  I want something I can ride around town.  I've had several cruisers but nothing like this before.   Any suggestions?  Is this a good deal?  Any issues they may have?  ALso, how much is a replacement fuel tank for a bike like this?  I dont know if I will like having that dent.

First off welcome to the forum.  I don't think that's a bad price for that bike. Tank dents come standard on most older monsters and you would be better served to have it professionally repaired by someone who has experience with Ducs. Ducpainter on this forum can handle it for you. Ask when the last time the bike was serviced.  Timing belts should be replaced every two years or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Valve adjustments are every 6,000. MAKE sure the belts are in order before you plan on riding the bike. If you have any mechanical know how belts are very straightforward and simple to do yourself. Valve adjustments are a bit more in depth. Good luck with your purchase.

Well, the price is low, so even if it needs a bit of maintenance, you won't be doing too badly. Is the dent from the handlebar, or did someone whack it?

Seems like a good deal to me.  I just really didnt expect to want another bike since I just sold my last one in January.  Here it is, the one I am going to buy tomorrow if I have my way.  The sales person said it has a dent on the left side of the gas tank.  Thats all I know, other than him telling me it runs fine.

Looks good.  Let's see, tail chop, reflectors, mickey mouse mirrors, saddle bags, all got to go.  Sounds like a fun 1st hour with the new ride lol.

I'd say its a great deal. I bought my '99 750 a few years back for $3,500. It was in worse shape than this one. It had a terrible custom paint job. I replaced the tank with a beautiful tank I got from Chris @ Ca Cycleworks for $500.

I picked up my '99 M750 for  $3500 in 2003.  There was a small dent in the tank and the seat still has a scuff on it, but it gets covered with the seat cowl.

That sounds like a good deal.  I got my 2000 750 for $2,350.  But, it wasn't in ridable conditoin.  With the needed repairs, I was in over $3K.

I say, go ahead and buy it!  [thumbsup]

How do you guys like the 750?  I cant understand why it is priced so low.  I want to make sure I'm not getting something I wont be happy with.  Thanks for the replies!

the_Journeyman

The 750 is has lower HP numbers than the 695 but a bit better torque numbers, but not much.  I LOVE my M750, it's a '99 that's fairly stock with only Termignoni (modified) mufflers and clip-ons.  It doesn't have the snappy feel (probably because it's running way rich) of my FI 900SS, not huge power.  However, it's incredibly fun to ride, handles well also with some light suspension work.  I use it as my commuter and some weekend ripping around.  Mine has been very reliable, with no problems in 31,000 miles.

PM me if you have specific questions ~

It depends on you and what you are looking for.  My 750 is my first bike.  Some people may not be happy with it for long becaue it doesn't have enough power for them.  But, I suppose these are guys that are used to riding bigger, faster bikes.

For me, it has PLEANTY of power even after 1 1/2 years riding it.  I LOVE it and can't wait to keep moding it.  I don't dream about getting a bigger bike.  I dream about upgrading components on my bike (clip-ons, adjustable suspension, 5 spoke marchesinis etc).

I don't see myself trading up the 750 for a bigger bike anytime soon.  I may not even sell this one when I do.

that's a decent price, wonder why it's not modded more. Had mine since March of '01 and getting ready to click over to 30,000 miles. Stone cold reliable except for 2 faulty oil pressure sensors and a throttle cable that broke last summer.

I've had mine for a year now, my first bike as well.  I LOVE IT,  wife hates it - May be a good deal for the bike but a quick look at it and soon you'll be  needing this, and that, and that, and that :-) so many cool upgrades and toys. :-) - So far with mine I've only "NEEDED" to replace the spark plugs and Clutch Slave - not to bad! But their have been many packages at the door that have led to me spending a bit to much time in the basement and a few too many nights on the couch!! haha No - In all seriousness - BUY IT AND WELCOME
