I don't really open up on the streets. There are far too many people in this area. When I ride in the national park near me, there are a lot of bicycles to share the road with. Most of them yield most of the time, but it only takes one. I try to watch the people/vehicles, then the road, then the speed limit signs.

as far as the freeway, I'll keep pace w/ the quicker (non-cell phone using) traffic, but what is the point of going open throttle in a straight line?

I'm okay with being one of the slowest forum members.

Riding a 1098R that will go from 0-145 in 10 odd seconds takes a lot of restraint especially when riding for hours on roads that are often the roads less traveled.

To be able to go from 60 to 120 in the blink of an eye and the brakes to stop the bike just as fast or faster means one really must  be very aware of everything ahead ,behind and on all sides.

For the most part I can restrain myself from getting crazy with the bike but the call of the country roads begs the feel of the intoxication of carving curves and strafing sweepers.

It is all I can do to not run flat out when the conditions seem to allow it.

I hear people say that after they do track days they ride slower on the street.

I wonder why that is ?

I find the faster I ride out in the Hills or the Forest, the faster I want to ride the next time out.

I hope to be getting a new GT bike here in the next few days .

Maybe I'll ride it slower as I break it in.

One can only hope.

Because you realize even though you think you are faster than light on the street you see you are really soooooo slow once on the track.     And that level of corner speed and acceleration is addicting.   And not having trees and curbs and cars (or walls) to hit makes it even more fun.

And then you see it is impossible to do that on the street even if you wanted to....so the street speed, which is now just mediocre anyway, isn't as fun.  So you slow down a notch.

I've had some great and memorable rides in the last twenty years....  But nothing has been more fun in terms of just motorcycle control and speed as getting on the track in the last couple years.   Now the street is enjoyable for other reasons.....just like driving a performance car would still be fun.

Thats the right attitude. [roll]  Seriously though how is this gonna help your problem?  The only way your gonna stop getting tickets is to slow the hell down on public roads.  These guys have given you good advise and then you say your gonna be disruptive in court?  Way to go.   [thumbsup]

How about going easy with the throttle and stay within 10mph of the speed limit.  Going 83 on 55, after 3 tickets already, was probably not the smartest thing for you to.  Slow down and stay safe out there!

When I was pulled over by a CHP officer (non-moving violation) he told me he also rode a MC. He told me he always stayed in front of traffic on the freeway because he feels safer. In order to do that I would have to go 90+ mph. I won't go faster than 75 or 80 depending on the freeway. I guess I am not safe.

I make sure that in town I stay in second gear for most roads. That's where I tend to get going too fast. Twisties are thrilling enough when going the speed limit. That's why I never do the group ride thing because I am happy riding "slow."
Is it June yet?

+1

After you get used to pushing it about as hard as you can on the track, you realize that you can't achieve that on the street. If you try you likely won't be alive too long, or you at least won't have a license for long. As such, you just slow down a little when street riding and enjoy the ride. Not to say you go the speed limit everywhere...but the pace slows a bit.

For me it means that I hardly ever take the 848 on the street. I know how I like to ride it, and how it likes to be ridden, and neither are compatible with public roads. The slower, more comfortable Multi is a MUCH better street bike. If it wasn't for my wife taking the 848 out on occassion, it would be a full time trackbike.

Unfortunately, a few bad cops ruin the image for a vast majority of good ones.  Spending four years in a college town caused me to lose all respect for city police.  Although, I don't hold State Troopers / Highway Patrol to the same stereotype.  I have found they are generally respectful if you are.

What do you have against trees anyway. It's not there fault they can't move out of the way. But seriously, I have had my fair share of tickets and everytime, it was my own damn fault. After awhile track days start to make a lot of sense from a safety and economic stand point.

Yeah but he got four tickets on a 620. That's trying hard IMO. (ducks and runs for cover) [popcorn]

:'(  Karma has already got me.  Trust me.  I will explain after my court dates in two weeks time.

I will be on best behaviour for my court dates.  Everytime I get pulled over trust me I am very respectful to the coppers.  But it never makes any difference as far as lessen my ticketed speed or anything.

As for riding this season, it is over for me as  of  yesterday (Sunday) :'(

I will start saving for track and try it out for the first time.
