Do you carry collision on your insurance

my '06 S2R is my first owned bike.  I am in MA, my collision insurance is getting quoted at about $250 per year with a $500.00 deductible.

Wondering what they would even cover?

With the value of a bike so low (relative to a car) is it worth carrying collision?

Thanks.

Do you owe much on your bike? If so, you should probably keep coverage.
Can you easily afford a replacement? If so, you might not need to worry about it - I don't know what your s2r is worth.
EDIT: I keep collision on mine - a couple hundred a yr is no big deal, and the bike is pretty new (M696), so the loss would be substantial if I totaled it. And we all know how easy it is to total a moto

It's required with my loan.  My CBR900RR was $82/year for liability only, the Duc  with full coverage is a little over $200/year.

Hilarity.

I just quoted my 695 at 307 for just basic liability. Full coverage? 1800

For shits and giggles I asked about my ex-trackbike, the 996. Liability: 756 Full coverage: 8351. Yup, you read that right, that's more than the bike costs .

The kicker? I only have 1 speeding ticket and no accidents on my record. It sucks to be 21 sometimes

Check it out in New Orleans! My premiums on everything nearly doubled when I moved from Houston to NOLA.

State matters a lot - in NH (where i have a house) total (with Collision) = $295 per year, in MA (where i am a resident) pretty close to $800.

Good point on totaling it - was thinking tank dings etc.  The bike is low miles (although i put 300 on it yesterday).  Good piece of mind i guess for a couple hundred bucks.  Thanks!

No, neither are financed.  Both are aged & have plenty of miles and I got 'em cheap.  I'd probably pay the purchase price in a year or two in collision premiums ~

I carry full coverage including collision.  It would cost a grazillion dollars to try to replace my bike.

I discovered if you are handy with tools and have a good place to find replacement parts(like the DMF) full coverage is NOT worth the price unless you want a new bike. I DO carry liabilty, uninsured, and extra medical though. Only the bike can be repaired or replaced cheaply, you and your limbs are gonna be expensive to fix. Uninsured is a no brainer for me, especially here in NM we have one of the hiighest uninsured rates in the country I believe.

It'd be worth *way* more if you took out Stu.

Just sayin'.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

But of course rates can vary a lot based on region.

I hate to say this, but give Progressive a call.
I ditched them for my car insurance... but i just can't beat their price on my bike, no matter where i look.
I'm 23 (started coverage when i just turned 22), it's my first bike, and i DO have a speeding ticket AND an accident on my record.
$42/month for FULL coverage. I'm talking Collision, Comprehensive, Liability, Medical, and $3000 worth of Gear/Accessories protection.
Cheaper than limited liability on my Dodge Neon...
I don't understand it, and never will... It's all arbitrary IMO.
