question for the cruiser riders..

I know a few of the members here are familiar with the HD/ cruiser riders and so I thought I'd ask what I've always wondered:

what is that long lanyard thing many have hanging off their throttle side?

I've seen some REALLY long ones that look like they can be a hazard if they got stuck in the wheel or something...

I asked about this butt floss at a recent poker run and they said it's their "cut" or colors for their MC. What I really got out of it was they like to pull over in the woods and whip each other

I am gonna have to pay closer attention also.  I park in the middle of about 20 Harleys at work (as long it is 80 degrees and sunny - they don't want to have to wash the chrome) and I haven't seen that.  We do have a guy on a Suzuki super scooter with tassled leather saddlebags.  I think he might like to be whipped.

My dad had them on one of his HD's I rode it just to see what it was all about and about crashed when it wrapped arond my arm! When I got back to his house I took it off and threw it in the trash, he pulled it out and put it back on. Oh well He could not tell me what it was for or what it did other than cost him $35.00 from HD!!

Some of the "tassle/lanyard" thingies carried by the 1%er crowd are heavy braided leather, about 30" in length and have a weight at the end ( what kind i'm not sure). They have been used as weapons against other riders and some motorists. I think there's also case law to support arrests of bikers using/carrying these things. I know of a Mongol arrested in Ventura County for having one.

Now streamers are a WHOLE other story...

I remember when I was in high school, I had this game on Sega Genesis called Road Rash.  It's a motorcycle racing game where you can punch and kick the other riders to gain an advantage.  You can also choose a baseball bat or motorcycle chains...  Super fun.  After reading this tassel threat, I begin to believe that the tassel is a weapon, much like the Road Rash game, that the HD riders utilize in passing maneuvers.
