Bike: 07 S2R1K
Mods: Stock with FATDUC and baffled BoomTubes
Location: Chicago, IL

So I recently installed a set of baffeled BoomTubes on my bike and the first day out the bike seemed to run hotter than it ever has before. Don't know exactly but the temps were in the middle 70's or so, and when I got stuck in downtown traffic the bike saw temps in the 270's and peaked around 285 or so. I cant be sure but I am pretty sure the bike never saw those kinda temps before I put on the exhaust.

So I was just wondering if my bike is running so lean it is running hot, or I am just being paranoid. I cant remember how the bike used to run (temp wise) before I installed the exhaust so I wanted to see what you guys thought..

As usual, all help/feedback is appreciated  waytogo

2005 S2R803 w/ Spark pipes/mid-pipe & custom PC3 map (in California)

150 - 220 Average

250 maybe in summer traffic.

Really rare for mine to go over that.

This is all if I remember correctly.

Last year i was running stock exhaust, and/or straight udder only...
I was between 170-220 average, peaking at 230 in traffic on a hot day.

This year i have a new Zard exhaust, and it seems to be running a bit hotter.
I will get some numbers later on...

I hit the 280's once, in traffic, before getting my PCIII mapped.

usually runs 220-230

was on the bike tuesday and it was running 240, but it is summer now, and I do need to get re-mapped from the swap

Mine went up 20 degrees or so with the install of the boomtubes.  It rarely broke 220 even in the summer and now it seems to get up to 240 fairly frequently.  I just put in more restrictive baffles and the temp seems to gone up a bit more.  +11tyb on the quieter baffles.  Boomtubes are almost civil now........

Hope this isn't a threadjack, but why does the temp go up with the boomtubes (or other less restrictive exhausts).  Is it due to a lean condition?

No threadjack what so ever.
Good to hear that someone else has experienced somehing similar to what I am seeing.

Like last night. I took the bike out to our weekly Wednesday bike night and the bike seemd to take 4ever to warm up (flashed low for quite awhile). Yes it was a balmy 55 out, but still seemd to take longer than normal. Then once it hit temp (think around 125 it starts to climb like crazy). Like I said I might be freaking out over nothing, or maybe the bike is running lean with the new pipes ? The bike feels strong, pulls hard, doesnt pop or backfire at all, etc..

Just worried that if it is running hot now whats going to happen when we here in Chicago get that one 85degree day ?

Less restrictive air flow (exhaust, mid-pipe, airbox) will lean out your bottom end to the point where you could be generating extra heat. I believe that I read people reporting that in the Closed-Loop sticky. Shouldn't be too much hotter though. Your FatDuc could be set way out of whack. Have you checked your temps with just the exhaust?

06 s2r 800 dark

boomtubes w/standard baffles (iirc)
open airbox lid re-closed with tape
stock engine management (PCIII won't fit between gas tank and battery like it does for some peepz  Angry )

I noticed only a slight temperature increase over the stock exhaust setup.  these days she stays around 190* while in motion, and around 215* after setting still for a few minutes.  Not alarmingly high by any means, especially compared to some of these other folks hitting 300+...

My 08 S2R was running 200 to 230 with stock oil, After oil change to Mobil 1 synth. seems to be running 220 to 250. Seems weird considering the Mobil is supposed to be the oil of choice.

The hottest my bike has ever gotten is 215 and that was on a 56 degree day where I had just gotten off the Edens and was just sitting at a gas station with my hands on the engine block because I was freezing.

Arrows go on at the end of this month or so, I'll check again then.

S2R800
midpipe, cored stockers, DP ECU/airbox
DC

On a recent 85 degree day I saw 250, but I've never seen it get hotter than that with the DP module. 285 is a little too close to 300 though and in Chicago with the brutal summer...
When I bought my bike the fuel pump flange underneath the plastic gas tank was warped presumably from heat, causing a fuel leak and dangerous condition. That flange is practically sitting on top of the vertical cylinder. Sometime during the life of the bike before I got it it may have overheated big time but I cannot confirm this, I just wanted to give some food for thought here. I may have made it worse by adding a midpipe with all other parts stock, save for partially cored stock mufflers. It may be wise to try to get those temps down somehow, perhaps a trim up on the fueling?
I have since plastered the underside of the replacement fuel tank with heat shielding. I'm paranoid after spending the dough on the new tank.
