I need some guy type advice.

Here's the situation: After years of not owning a car, riding a variety of motorcycles (not all at once), my BF went and bought a car. A new car. It's a sports car, convertible, leather seats, all the fancy accessories you could possibly desire. I would love to drive this car. My car is a fun little Fit, but not that much fun. It's not sports car fun.

We both have an appreciation of all things with motors and wheels, and he has in fact offered to let me drive the new car. (Yes, he's the best BF ever.  [cheeky])

But, he did it with enough hesitation that I declined, figuring that it'd be comparable to driving with my mom when I was a teenager. Besides, it's brand new! I could tell he didn't really want to let any one else drive it. Not yet.

My question for the guys is, how long do I need to wait before I can take him up on his offer to let me drive it? How will I know that it's really OK for me to drive his new baby?

if you love him

don't ever drive the car

don't bring it up again

just smile and say "no thanks baby" when he offers again.

my wife is wonderful

i'd rather have my nuts in a vise before letting her drive my car.

my brother in law is the same about his car, esp after his wife smashed the front and rear fenders (it's a Lotus)

pretty much every guy i know is that way.

just don't do it.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

He offered.   Say thank you and drive it like you stole it.

He needs to learn the life lesson that he shouldn't say things he doesn't mean.   You are just helping him improve himself.

Officially, the GTI is my car, the Passat is the wife's.  She usually doesn't drive my car because she wears a brace on her left foot that she would have to remove since it has a manual transmission, but she can drive it anytime she wants.  They are only cars.

Is there any other way (to drive it)?  [evil]

Driving it cause you stole it! Now go grab the keys and make sure he paid his insurance premium.

He just needs to get over a worry of dings. Go put a few in it first.

Or just take him out, let him get drunk, then drive it home.

+11tybillion to Statlers advice-go flog it up 84.

+1. No one drives my cars, or rides my motorcycles. But then again, I don't offer either.

This thread needs a poll.

I love my wife. She's smart, beautiful, sexy, and my best friend.

She will NEVER drive my sports car.

She can drive the truck, the van, or her car.

Ride a bicycle, or take the bus.

Period.

;D ;D ;D

also, thanks to my g/fs driving record, it would be a tough call to offer her keys to any vehicle i own or may own. esp if it's a sportier car.

My wife ceases to be a good driver as soon as she puts her car into "reverse"... she ain't touching my WRX... it isn't fancy, but I love that damned car!

1) Start engine

2) Position shifter in 1st gear position

3) Increase engine RPM to 4k-5k

4) Dump Clutch resulting in smoky burnout

5) Repeat at each intersection you are forced to stop at
