955 isn't much of a bump in displacement for the cost involved.
984, that's a '955' with a 900 crank (68mm), right?

I've got a DS1k crank that I want to fit into my S4, that'll be a 992... pending money and time to tear it all down....

I've got a set of cast magnesium Marchesinis on mine, definitely better than the OEM 5-spokers, not as good as BSTs tho.

Suspension upgrades are always money well spent IMO.

What's the best route as far as upping the displacement?

As for the wheels are Dymag carbon/magnesium good wheels? I love the look 3 spoke red mags. Aren't they a little less price than the BSTs?

Why put a 1000 crank in a 916 when you can get a 996 s4r/st4s motor for 1k then put the crank in it.  Plus with the right parts you'll out pull a streetfighter.

Wheels are the best upgrade.  Buy the lightest you can afford.

Ignorant question, but I've only been around my bike for a few years...is the ST4S the same as the S4R? I saw a S4R on ebay for 999 today. How much is involved with the transfer?

Out pulling a street fighter I don't get would be too big an issue on the track with the right mods. But that damn thing is sexy as hell! Plus with a few mods on it. Look out!!!

What are you looking for straight line speed, more corner speed, or a balanced package?

If you looking for more power, get an ST4S ($1-2,500.00) motor and transfer your cams, flywheel, and PC3 over (labor rate). Get some high comp pistons ($500.00) and head work ($2-3,500.00), this would put you in the 120rwhp range.

You'll need to upgrade the stock suspension with that much power.

+1 on whats already been said.

Hell I thought I was around 117 as is right now...Can't I get 120+ with  HC pistons?

So to install the 996 I'm looking at around 5k or more?

Hmmm, well, I hadn't thought of that.  Grin

For the OP, depends on how much $ he's willing to spend.

Additional detail, S4 has the close ratio trans in it.
ST4, S4R, ST4s have the wide ratio trans.

Your bike stock was more than likely putting down just under 100rwhp, your mods probably added another 8-10rwhp. Here is a dyno comparison of my stock S4 and then with a built ST4S motor:

Yes, it's a chunk of change when you get into motor build ups.

I would get the street fighter or do wheel/suspension work, before I would spend money on the motor. My bike was a handful before I upgraded the suspension and brakes.

Close ratio is less of an issue when you have over 80 ft/lbs of torque from 3500-8000 rpms.

Still have to fit dual injectors to maximize the top end.

Eh, kinda what I was meaning.
Even my virtually stock S4 has no trouble with the gaps on the street.

I've got a wide-ratio box waiting to go in with the crank.  Smiley

What's the black curve?

I can get the BSTs for 3500 shipped...is it really that noticeable of a  difference?

YES!

Rick,

What were the issues you were having a while back and how did you correct them?

Is the black line the first tune on the new motor?

How did you go from 120 to 141hp (is that all tune)?

Thanks for all of the great advice! I have a much better idea on the route to take. I am looking into a couple of options for wheels.  waytogo

(Edit) How much do my stock wheels weigh? I see a lot of places calling them "super light weight"

My graph is my curve vs. 1098.  Mine is black and is kicking a$$ until fuel injectors max out.   bang head  I've got some dual injectors that I'm going to have fitted in the hopes to get the top end situated.  Should pull the 1098/streetfighter to 9500 RPM after that.
