Might be the wrong thread, but I got the Glocks 33 slide off today.

It took a while of make the beast with two backsing with, but I did get it.

yeah me.

I guess.

you must have weak fingers.  the slide retainer can be very strong to pull down on both sides.

i think they have a "lady" version for the spring.  drops a few lbs off the retention.

Damn, is that scope on the Mosin Nagant tall enough?? Does that work for you?? I can't see a decent cheek weld with a scope that high. Obviously it must work for you. Nice job on the machine and drill work. [thumbsup] Cool rifles!

might have to use a cheek pad.  it is high, but retrofitting a mosin with a scope isn't an exact science.  even the original scope setup on those with the PU scopes is a factory kluge.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Never have a problem til after I shoot it first.

No, I don't have any problems getting the slide retainers down. It's catching the "friction point" so to speak on the groove that allows the slide to go forward.

its kind of cool sitting that high, because the stripper clips still work. I can also still use the iron sights for closer shots, and the bolt does open, but it can be tricky when one of them decides to stick, and it happens from time to time.

I used this particular scope because it is calibrated for the 7.62x54r drop and it has the nifty little range finder inside the reticle.

bolt handle on a mosin cannot be bent.  the steel is hardened to like 9 million rockwell.  it will break.

you might be able to anneal it, bend it and then re-heat treat it, but i don't evne know what alloy they used so no idea what temp to heat treat it at.  i doubt they even used any known alloy, probably changed from day to day.

Yeah, I don't have a clue what the bolt is made from, probably very low quality martensitic stainless, its still magnetic, but scratches fairly easy. I was planning on cutting it near the bolt body and welding a bent piece in between the two parts. my brother is a damn good welder, if I cut metal, he'll put it back together.

great idea on the cheek pad, I have a idea in my head on how to make that all work. guy next door is a carpenter so I can get advice and ideas from him too. it is a bit odd to contort yourself, get a good hold on the rifle and a good view threw the scope. but not impossible.

the barrel isn't any where near floated either, so, thats more work to do. but its actually a pretty good shooter for what it is. I just wanted to build something a bit different.

Just received my firearms id card today. Took me 3 months to get in the wonderful state of new jersey. Thinking of buying a mossburg mariner.

Nice gun!

Mossberg makes a good reliable pump shotgun. The Mariner has got a nice tough coating too. I don't think Mossberg offers the Mariner with their factory ghost ring sights, but if you are considering this for home defense you could always have a gunsmith install them later. I'm pretty sure Mossberg still sells them separately and they are good, rugged ghost rings. I prefer them over a simple bead sight but last time I checked there's not a damn thing wrong with a bead sight! Just personal preference. [thumbsup]

i like ghost rings better too. i haven't liked them enough to spend the dough on throwin' 'em on my ol' mossy500 just yet. (many reasons, actually, like: it would make zero sense to put any aiming device on a pistol grip pump and i don't want to buy a collapsible stock and grip just yet neither)

i've also got a benelli nova. (i like shotguns. especially cheap ones that always go bang). as mentioned earlier, its got the world's longest barrel. They do make a version with a much shorter barrel for CQB/home defense. Worth eye-ballin'.  Not sure what your budget is.

For home defense do you really need nice sights?

Shot guns are more of a point and click type of device ;D

nah, no sights needed, my home is fairly small - no long hallways to "aim" down.

worst part of law school so far? Learning that boobie traps will land you in hot water, legally. what a bummer.

Gonna start carrying this at work again. Carried the XD for a while and then swapped to a Pare Ordnance LDA. Got a holster that accepts the XD and TLR 2 so I'll carry this until I get bored with it.

ghost right sights are overrated.  a bead is fine.  the best kind of "sighting" for self/home defensive situations is muscle memory, which means practice, practice, practice.

Absolutely not!!!! Don't ever think that shotguns are a point and shoot weapon! No more than a pistol or rifle is. I taught tactical shotgun for 11 years at a shooting academy and have taken dozens of courses from world class instructors. I won't bore you here with the details. Go back several pages on this thread for my crap about all of that. The point is in a home/apartment setting, given the normal room or hallway distances in a gunfight even using birdshot the pattern does not open up as much as you think, it's still very tight. This mentality of hip shooting a shotgun and gunning down all adversaries from one side of the street to the other is dead wrong! DEAD WRONG! You can easily miss someone regardless of the defense load within the space of a average bedroom. You need good sights, you need to use them, you need to aim at what you are shooting at and you probably even need a weapon mounted light. Go take a course from any tac shotgun instructor and if they are worth a damn they will say the exact same thing.

Besides... shotgun is one word not two. ;D

Damn dude. Consider switching to decaf...

I was just looking for an excuse to use point and click in a sentence about shotguns.

;)
