Mmmm. 16".308. Good stuff indeed. ;D They are cool little guns for sure! [thumbsup] I noticed that Dillion is selling the latest 25 round gov't mags. Five up on what I have in stock. May have to look into that.

Gun pictured is just a standard M1A or M14 if you are using military terminology.

It is not a tricked out special Socom Model.

Just your basic M1A with a synthetic stock, holds a 20rnd Mag, and is chambered in the typical .308.

Nothing special about it.

I just like the feel of the gun and it shoots nicely and accurate.

Nosir.  It is in fact a scout model, which can be id'd by the shorter barrel and unique muzzle brake/compensator.  You can also tell from the rail mount on the upper fore-end.

Also, M14s are only mil-spec and are select fire capable, so in fact different from an M1A.

Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

Actually the "M1A" designation is a proprietary commercial name used by the Reese family's (commercial private sector) enterprise that was named Springfield Armory Inc. of Geneseo Ill.

not to be confused with Springfield Armory in Mass. which was the real government arsenal that was shut down in 1967 and is now a National Historic Site....

although the Reese family does their level best to confuse their company with the former government entity in their marketing strategy with ads that say "The Oldest Name In American Firearms"....indeed it is the oldest name, however in fact it has nothing to do with what the Reese gang is shoveling out their door in Illinois

Other makers of the genre use the military M14 designation for their semi-auto rifles that approximate the features of the original USGI design sans select fire ability  the names usually have some modification...for instance the LRB M14SA or Armscorp M14NM etc etc

Many people mis-use the M1A designation as a generic referral to their non-select fire commercial versions of the rifle

I thought the SOCOM had that front end festooned with Picatinny rails and the Scout was just a version of the M1A with a cut down barrel to enhance muzzle blast   :)

Here's an LRB M14sa that Art Luppino match-built for me using a barreled receiver and new/as new/from the wrapper TRW parts supplied by me

The barrel is an original TRW contract NM tube from the 1960's that I lucked into

That is his test target when he was done...100 yards on the bench

As Art has said to me ....only accurate weapons are interesting

for a guy in his 70's shooting iron sights I think it says something   ;)

besides a 600 meter test/sighting target could get expensive ammo-wise
