Good guns, great feral hog guns!!! [thumbsup]

I was going to ask if it's a good hog gun. My brother has been hunting hogs for at least a year and I want to talk him into buying one of these so that I can steal it.

It's a pretty heavy gun to lug around if you have a 20rnd mag in it.

Heavy being compared to a AR-15.

I need to call you to discuss hog hunting actually. Since my bro is in Southern Georgia, isn't that a hog hunting region?

I want to go down for a weekend and take him hunting. I've never been before, so I need to read up on the procedure, practice, etc etc.

My understanding is you just walk around on their "paths" and wait til one comes along and you pop it with a .357mag handgun or some sort of rifle.

If you can find one an old Ruger semi-auto carbine in 44 magnum...cuts through the brush with minimal deflection and has the required raw stopping power

for when the hairy VW beetle with giant tusks comes crashing through the shrubs straight at you with bad intent
This is an insult to the Pez community

Southern Georgia is big on hog hunting. I believe you need a license to hunt them. You also need to find a place where they allow it. My brother rents a cabin and he has a specific area where he can hunt. He can also bring in guests, but you can't get out of the area or it's considered poaching. I wouldn't recommend doing this since you're liable to get shot by the locals. I can get you in contact with my brother and his friend. They go up to the cabin very very regularly and probably now more since he's shipping off the kids. An AR works well and you'll also need a handgun with enough stoping power to take down a charging hog just in case. My brother prefers the .10 Glock. Don't ask me why he prefers it. I assume that your .45 would be best. Let me know and I'll get you in contact with him.

My older brother's rule of gift giving is always give something that you can borrow back and use yourself!! [clap] Sounds like you are on to something.

Well, it doesn't make sense for me to buy one when I live in South Florida. I would only use it when visitng Georgia. Not sure how much effort it would take to convince him.

Is a .45 a large enough round to stop a charging hog?

How about a .357 sig?

I figured you'd need a permit.

I thought about going through an outfitter since they take you on the right path and have the knowledge.

but then again, sounds like your brother has the same knowledge base.

Is a .223 a large enough round to kill a hog or would it take multiple shots?

I hear they are tough make the beast with two backsers.

You'll need multiple shots and most likely it will take a few minutes of thrashing. The handgun is just a precaution and I would hope that it has enough stopping power.

My brother has been into hunting now for a few years. His buddy has done it for years and they'll keep you safe as long as you don't piss them off. Then you're on your own, but my brother is generally a cool enough guy.

If he is anything like you, then "cool" is not the word I would use.

more like douchebag

I'll give you a call when we are ready to possibly plan it. My bro needs to get into his routine down there and he isn't sure what the training schedule is like. He is coming up here on the 4th so by then we should have a good idea if it is a plausible idea.

Is there a specific season for these things or is it year round?

So basically you just unload a shit ton of rounds into them until they stop moving?

The hog would need to be too close for comfort to take down with the Saiga. Hogs are a nuisance so they hunt them year around. Deer season starts closer to fall and I think it first opens for bow and arrow. I think he prefers his .223 for hogs because of the accurracy when you have to get multiple hits. They'll continue to fight for a while and then just fll over. Let me see if I can find the video of the guys that hunt them using thermal sights.

These guys get paid by farmers to hunt hogs that feed in their property at night:

Watch some of the videos. It's impressive shooting.

It will shoot a 3" slug

I think a 10rnd Mag of slugs would do the trick considering it will fire as fast as an AR (maybe a little slower, but probably not much)

Hm, maybe slug-slug-00-00-dragonsbreath might be a good firing order.
