So after selling my full Arrow carbons, I reinstalled my OEM exhaust & decided to see how it sounded with an open lid, DP ECU, & the open udder.

Got everything fitted, checkd for leaks, & fired her up...... sounded OK @ idle but once I went for a ride, it sounded terrible IMHO...... almost like the Arrows with no bass & under water laughingdp  Seemed to run fine & the plugs look good but I can't stand the sound so I didn't rev it passed 6K.......

Continued with the install & added the S pipes a OEM cans...... like how they look but too quiet...... all I here is clutch laughingdp  Still running the open lid & DP ECU & it feels rich...... not too bad but a little slugish.  You can really hear the intake now as the exhaust is so quiet.  Sounds good above 6K but way too quiet below that & surprisingly it seems to have lost TQ as well as HP IMHO.

Now I have to see if I can baffle the udder but more than likely I'll just run the stock setup & gop back to the OEM ECU & close the lid as it's pointless to dump the air & fuel in if the exhaust can't get it out fast enough.

why are you trying to make your stock exhaust do what your sold exhaust did.

I'm not...... I was just using it as an example....... I really liked a bike that Stu did & it motivated me to do something similiar but I don't like the sound..... I can always buy another set of Arrows Wink

I guess everyone has different taste. I like the sound on my S2R1000 with just the udder. I think it sounds cool. I cut the "s" pipe and mounted them to the udder and it sounds fine.

I too had Full Arrows on my S4RS and sold them. I put the udder back and have not looked back. Sounds cool and cleans her up in the rear... I always have riders telling me it sounds cool.  [moto]

Yeah..... the Arrows spoiled me because the sound is so full & deep & has a great pitch too..... the udder IMHO sounded crude & a little rough..... I suppose I should have tried it with a closed lid too as the open lid adds sound & other noises as well.

Did the S pipes change the sound Huh?  Post or email me a pic.... I'd love to see it waytogo

I too really like the rear opened up but I don't want something too loud..... I felt that with the open udder & the open lid, above 5K was ridiculisoly loud...... & I like to use the motor Evil

p.s.  Your S4RS along with the one Stu did is what made me want to try udder only waytogo

This was my setup before the Zard system:

I just rotated the S-pipes so they pointed down, and sawed them off.  I don't think it changed the quality of the sound at all, but it might have helped point it away from the rider's ears.

Sold: 2007 S2R1000 for canyon carving and commuting - DP ECU, PCIII, BMC air filter with open box, Zard full exhaust, Race-tech fork internals, Ohlins steering damper, and a Penske 8987 triple clicker

2000 996XU (extra ugly) for track days - BST carbon wheels, Ohlins shock, reworked fork, FBF exhaust, and a bunch of megacycle rocker arms. The rest of it is junk - Hey, I'm just happy that it runs...

Sold: 2002 Aprilia RST1000 for touring - De-restricted airbox, Taylormade Racing exhaust

Yup, I would have to agree. Adding and pointing the pipes away from the bike made it possible to ride without earplugs. As you can see below, S2R's mount on the outside and are smaller. The S4RS is larger and mount on the inside of the Bladder.

I used rivets to hold the pipes on both bikes:

Does make me wonder if you couldn't just fit some Harley-style straight-pipe baffles in there, just to deepen the sound.
