hey guys, what pressures do you run front / back when you have pillions? I am just getting into taking passengers and the oddness of the way the bike handles when I do!!
any tips?
I'm running pilot road2 f/r its an s2r1000 pillions are usually about 70 - 80kg and I am about 78kg

Usually the front doesnt need to be raised by much if at all, but the main load carrying wheel definately needs an increase of maybe 5psi with a turn increase on the spring and 1 click increase on the rebound damping (and same on compression damping if fitted) You manual will give you a "Load Carrying" tyre pressure recommendation, use these as a starting point and see how you go.

I take my wife with me everywhere - most times. I just have my rear at the maximum recommended, which on my bike is 2.4bar. My rear is a 160, so it will be different for yours. I used to religously piss about with the pre-load and damping which is a good thing, but now a pain in the ass having to set it back and forth whenever I go by myself I now just leave it set for a single rider, when she gets on it sags a little but we manage to get from A-B without any handle issues.

upgrade pillions...you should be able to get something decent around the 50 to 55kg mark and that way will cause less problems...and I've heard if you train them right in balnace/weight transfer/cornering then they have a lot less impact.

cheers guys. the pillions 70kgs because its my mate who wants to see what it feels like to ride (another conversion to the ducati dark side) and pillion was the easiest way to show him some semblance of what it is like. Still haven't been able to convince my gf to give it a try I run 32 / 35psi at present. what do you guys run on pilots?

Pretty much the same: 750 with the 160 rear 32/34 1000DS 180 rear 32/36 And that is using a Michelin tyre gauge, different gauges can definately read +/- quite a bit. I NEVER use gauges at servos. Using the same gauge all the time gives a constant in setting pressures. Trap for young players.

Dragon, can you please explain the lower pressure for the lesser volume tyre? ... remember I not too bright. I think Julie only runs about 20 in Lillie (think tiny, tiny tyres) ... I am not too sure why, just do as I'm told . But we run the same pressures in the Monsters (think your two). Thanks

Hmmmm. good question Betty!! I can only theorise that it has something to do with air compressability and the larger volume in the lager (Oops larger, thinking again.) tyre. The larger cavity needing a higher pressure to maintain its working, most efficient shape and temperature. Might have to do some Googling.

haven't done research into the S4rs...comes with a OEM spec DU321? with remote preload? the DU333 (top of the line for monsters) does.... but not really an option if it's just 'mate' riding...has there evrer been anyone who liked the pillon on a monster?

S4RS - has external piggyback reservoir to adjust the compression damping but no remote preload adjustment

i run 34-f 36-r on the pilot powers , i have rased the front pressure a little more than i like to try and get a bit more tyre life out of the front , i dont worry about changing pressure when i chuck wifie on the back just allow for the extra weight and slow down
