I'm just finishing coring a set of pipes I bought used and have some questions

#1 Is there anyone out there that has cored pipes on a 06 620 or any 620?

#2 Did you run into any issues with fueling or performance?

#3 If you did make changes to the bike so that it ran well with the cored pipes what did you do.

#4 Finally for anyone out there that is running cored pipes with a PCIII what map did you start with and or did you have it dyno tuned.

I'm excited about a little more sound and performance but I really want to make sure the bike runs great most of all.

Thanks for any feedback,
K3VIN

1. Plenty of folks, it's not big deal

2. Generally not.  Modifications to, or replacing the slip ons have little impact on the fueling.

3. See #2

4. A PCIII will probably not be needed unless you alter the intake.  By altering the intake (open box, K&N Filter etc) you alter the air portion of the fuel-air mix equation.

- Unless you're going to open up the intake, you're really not going to see much power pick up.  The engine will probably feel a bit better since it won't have the restriction of the stock pipes - but additional air and fuel adjustments are needed for max power gains.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thanks yuu,

That makes me feel a little better about it. I just didn't want to get any flat spots or run lean enough to hurt anything.

Have you ever run cored or aftermarket pipes on a stock bike?

I don't have a real problem buying a PC if I could figure out a base map. Would I see a lot better performance with a PCIII and opening up my air box?

Also how about the power card anyone running that on a 620 with cored pipes?

stock-bike ran fine

arrow slip-ons- bike ran fine

chopped lid/bmc filter-bike ran like poo

PCIII+canned map-bike ran better

dyno tuning helped smooth out a big flat spot that even the canned map didn't help, and picked up a couple of ponies.

ultimately, I'd say you don't need a PCIII til you touch your airbox.  idk what the absolute stock, baseline numbers were on my bike (05 620), but after the dyno, the rwhp numbers were on par with the ducati's stock numbers

My previous ride, a 05 620 came to me with a PCIII open air box w K&N, Sil Slip-ons and a print out of the Dyno run.

W/ the PCIII exhaust and intake it picked up roughly 10% (a bit less than though).  If I remember correctly it was rated at 59 and change (RWHP) before and 64.somthing.  I don't remember the numbers for the torque gains, but it was a similar amount.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Hopefully I'll finish my second muffler this weekend and report back with my results.

I have cored stocks on my '03 620, no problems. I do believe they sound better than Termis and they're a helluva a lot cheaper.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

I finished up my cored cans this weekend and test rode Sunday.

They are perfect!!!!  Just enough sound to make the bike even more fun to ride but not too loud that they get annoying.

I have put about a 100 mile on them and have experienced no signs of the bike running lean.

Here is a brief over view of my experience with the mod.

Tool and supplies:
chop saw with fiber blade
angle grinder
dremel tool
sawall with metal blade
drill
screw driver
file
rubber mallet
painters tape

1. Unbolt the hanger and slide sleeve back. I held the sleeve and banged the inlet on a soft piece of wood.

2. Grind the welds on the end cap off fist with grinder the cut in with demel. Use the screw driver to pry and knock the cap off.

3. Cut the can at the length you want. The chop saw with the fiber blade worked well. I covered the can in painters tape to protect it from scratching.

4. Clean up all the edges.

5. I used a sawall to cut the long inside tube on an angle so you didn't see it through the hole.

6. Knock the cap back on the end of the exhaust with a mallet and a little more clean up.

7. Drill holes and rivet. This was the hardest part for me. I decided it would look nice to have 6 rivets. It took some work to drill through that stainless steel end cap 6 times.
8. Install on bike and enjoy.

Thanks again

Sorry :( I had such plans to be good and take step by step photos.

Then I said, well I'll do one and photo the second. Then I wanted to ride and just finished the second can and did some testing :)

I'll take a video clip of them on the bike??

Or if you have any questions please ask.

Hi K3V1N, how's the Power Commander? Big difference? Small difference?

Thanks

Hey gregrnel,
I took the advice of the people that posted and just changed the pipes. If I have any signs of it running lean or need a new project I may open the air box and add a PCIII. I'll let you know if I do.

Thanks again
