Bt-014's

I have my bike in for service, and will be haveing them replace the rear with same as stock BT-014. I was happy with the performance and life of the tire(7500 miles). Does any one know of a reason not to buy this tire?

I had the 014 as stock - changed to Metzeler Sportec M3 - WOW

One of the important differences is the profile. M3s are rounder - meaning they turn more easily and allow further lean angle. The flatter profile of the 014 will mean more rubber on the ground (confidence) up to the point where there is no more (disaster).

The most commonly chosen tires are all better than the 014, I think. If you don't want to leave the brand, at least look into the 016s.

Your next question might be: is it ok to have two different brands/models front and rear? Answers will vary, but bottom
line is yes.

If the different profile also applies for the front - then, in theory, you will run out of front tire before you run out of rear tire. Most people report that they don't use all of the front, but more often all of the rear.

Forget my theory, this issue is very insignificant and you will be fine When you eventually also change the front tire - you might get an aha moment. Bonus is that you will know what a tire change does to the front versus the rear.

Throw on the 016, it is a much better Tyre than the 014, If your bike does a lot of Commuting, you may want to consider the 021 Sports/Touring tyre, I have had the 016 on the rear until I switched to the 021.

I Commute everyday so I needed the harder compound of the 021, but I still like to get out on the local Mountain range, and the 021 so far has been better than I thought and is wearing very well doing the commute duties, and It still grips very well when at full attack on the Range (better than I thought actually) I still run an 016 on the front, I prefer the better grip the 016 offers on the front.

While I'm out here in Albuquerque riding here and there on my '97n M900 and meeting members of the NMMR, my '01 is back at the dealer on Long Island. Since I am replacing both front and rear, I had  a detailed discussion with him about which tires to fit. The bike came with Pilot Sports. I do no track days and the bike is mostly a commuter; the Sports had worn down the center. He recommended BT-021's which he said would wear longer and give me enough grip for those times I want to push the bike a little.

Anyone have any long-term (a few thousand miles) experience with the BT-021's? I'd be interested in the feedback. Thanks...

Pilot Road 2ct. 

+1 I swithched from pilot power 2ct  rear to the Pilot Road 2ct on my 07 1k and  there was almost not difference except for the longer wear life.

I agree the BT016's are awesome, they have fantastic grip and they inspire a lot of confidence in corners, however they do wear pretty quickly.

hey fellows,  Sorry if its a bit off topic.  What kind of tyre pressures do you run on the BT-014s?  The tyre says max 42psi, Should i try to maintain that?  Most of my riding is twisty Spanish roads but no track days yet... Thanks for the input.

42psi is max. More suitable for normal riding would be around 32 or 34

i have the PP2's and love them. i've commuted about 1.5K on them and the centers aren't indexed yet. the good thing about the BT-016's are that they have 3 different compounds on the tire. hard in the center for commuting, medium and soft on the sides. the reason i didn't go with those is because the rear tire weighted almost 1.5lbs more than the PP2's.

no matter what tire you buy, please don't try to get a donkey kong wide tire.
