If guy with the sword was trained to use the sword then I wouldn't be surprised.  It doesn't take much to cut a person in half with a even a semi decent sword. The (semi?) severed hand was probably a defensive wound - he probably put it up to stop the sword.

Goza (bamboo mats) are used for practice. A single one is close to what would take to go through a person - this guy is cutting triple rolls:

good reminder....deadly force, even justified, will result in a stay in the slammer.   Defending property, you have to consider the value.   Defending life, I'll take some time in prison while they sort it out because I'm still alive and that's better than the alternative.

But he's alive.   And his roommates are alive.

It's such a shame it comes to that, but it is the reality of the situation.

Hopefully the prosecutor will not pursue charges against the kid.

I wonder if the "intruder" had a weapon? It doesn't say that in the article.

I think chopping off the guys hand was enough, but don't know if he did that after the chest swing cut.

but again.......I'd fire til the clip was empty or heard a body hit the ground.

I like to think my 66lbs doberman would tear someone up, but I am not so sure.

IIRC here in NY deadly force is not justifiable for defense of property.

Doesn't mean the make the beast with two backser wouldn't deserve it according to my rules.
