696 maintenance at 7500
«

So i'm due for my 7500 mile maintenance.
dealers are quoting me $700-900 plus incidental parts.
Ducati certified local independant (haven't checked if he can rid me of the wrench indicator) quoting $600 inclusive (unless i need belts too) and inclusive is more inclusive, including brake and clutch line bleeds (which are needed). (need front pads too, but i'm sure they'll be less expensive as well.)
So can i get some opinions on whether it's worth the extra scratch to "protect" the warranty by doing it at a dealer?
Frankly, i don't know if i trust the dealers work (every time i've had it to the shop it's come back with something new broken/missing) so i'll probably be less needy of the warranty if i take it to the indie.

I'm not 100% sure how the warranty issue works with an independent shop. I think that as long as the shop does the work required by the warranty and you have the receipts, there's no problem. Ducati would have to prove that faulty independent shop work caused the warranty issue in order to disclaim it. But again, not 100% sure.

I'm in LA, not going to find prices near that. Not planning on needing belts, it was just mentioned as a remote reason the service would end up more than the quote, didn't sound at all like he expected it. Basically, i'm looking at $650 verses $1k to get everything done (Mandatory service, brake pads, brake/clutch bleeds). $400 goes a long way, and i'm not expecting anything to come up that would need warranty repair at this time... i just don't want something found and be out of pocket more than i'm saving, nor do i want the dealer screwing me out of a warranty repair down the road because i didn't let them do this service. ( i know they're not supposed to, but i know that some would.)

What he's doing above the book, i need done anyway. so i'd be paying the dealer above their service quote.

Depends on what they're charging for Labor, I'm assuming they're using synthetic oil, and if not i'm requesting it, and you're leaving out shims, if they're needed (which, i understand at 7500, they probably won't be). That said, the dealer quote i got put the labor at 575 (without the clutch/brake work), which is already right there with the indie shop's all inclusive price.
I honestly don't think it's a horrible price for LA, (but you can bet i'll learn how to do it myself and save those labor costs once the warranty is dead).
I'm starting to think maybe i should pull the plugs before hand, to get an indication if i may be facing warranty issues during the maintenance.

Where was that quote from? When I hit 7500 on my 696, my dealer said it was a 7.5 hour job and was going to run me $750 + parts. I took it to Nichols (In Milpitas, CA) and they charged me about $450. And they do great work. But they couldn't reset the wrench.

Now that price I don't have a problem with.
