Oil I should be using for 696

Manual recommends Shell Advance Ultra 4 (15W50).  Is this what everyone is using?  Is this the only one I should use?  Just went to a local Shell station, of course they didn't have it. 

Oil level looks like it could use a little top off so I'm looking to get some.
2009 696 Monster, CF Termi's, Hindsight LS CRG's, (yes that's it, have a lot of catching up to you guys...)

That oil is not available in the US.

Many think any full synthetic of the proper weight will be fine. I'm in that camp.

Others think dino oil is fine if you change it frequently.

If you use something other than a moto specific oil be aware that some have had clutch slipping issues on wet clutches.

Just called dealer was told to use 10W40 Silkolene Fully Synthetic.  Motul is hard to get apparently.

You can get Motul at three shops by me and Camrods in the city.  Maybe even Cycle Therapy.

Apparently I'm some sort of heretic for running Delo 400 in my bikes (dry clutch and wet) with frequent change intervals (2k or so). However the UOA's prove out nicely and the bikes shift much better so I'm going to stick with it until something blows up.

Don't think you're a heretic at all.  The Delo 400 is probably as good or better than the Shell Rotella T a lot of us use.  But I run mine a longer than 2k. :)

any one ever wonder why the Shell is not available in the USA??????????? It blows my mind that the oil Ducati recomends is not here!!!!!!!!! ???

Ducati recommends Shell because they are a race sponsor.  If you look in the repair manual the oil recommendation is not brand specific.

but I could never find the correct 15W-50. I know its just oil, but Ducati dealerships should have a 15W-50.

it costs a fortune and takes a lot of time to get an oil through EPA and other regulations in the US so for a motorcycle specific oil with such a small market in the US (there are PLENTY of moto oils so its already a filled market), there isn't enough potential profit to do it.  I believe they are looking into it and may eventually get it in the US but the sticker and recommendation by Ducati (Italy) is 100% purely and totally based on corporate partnerships having nothing to do at all with the oil itself, its not some super special Ducati formulated oil its just motorcycle oil made by shell who happens to be corporate partners with Ducati in their racing program.

Are you sure about the EPA approval requirement for motor oil?  I didn't know the EPA had anything to do with approving oil, unless you spill more than 25 gallons or so into a storm drain.  I could of course be wrong but I don't think there's any kind of expensive US government approval system in place for motor oil.  The API ratings such as SG are self certified by the oil companies.

This site below seems to think that Ultra is just another Shell marketing name for Rotella when it's sold in some countries.  Don't know how true that is.

thats the reason DNA has always given for why the Shell oil isn't available in the US, it could be wrong but thats the info I've been given (not totally sure its an EPA thing, may be one of the other 10,000 government red tape agencies)
