The first round was a snooze fest. I was actually falling asleep at the bar. Silva will continue to have issues finding good fights in that weight division. Machida will be a tough fight for anyone. All in all it was at most an ok night of fights.

Pretty much how I feel about it.  Yeah, he had a great gameplan and executed it but he's not going to win over anyone by fighting like that.  Reminds me of Tim Sylvia once he got the belt.

Joe Rogan mentioned during the fight that to the casual fan it was a boring fight. But I think to those who now what's going on, it's still pretty amazing. Silva's improvised striking, ie punching to the leg and some sort of soccer kick, makes him exciting for me to watch. Very similar to Machida, it's not always fun to watch an elusive/counter striking fighter. But both their game plans are working for them.

I do feel a little bad for Chuck, and am kinda hoping for a comeback.

Question: Are foot stomps now illegal?

It was a boring fight to any fan. The problem wasn't Silva, it was the chump they put in with him. Leites isn't going to get any big time fights after that performance. If there is one way to piss of Dana it's to flop on the ground whenever the other fighter gets near you.

Chucks done. Even if he comes back and wins one or two I don't think he is ever going to regain the dominace he once had. The rest of the field is getting too good, too well rounded.

Foot stomps are legal.

Chuck is suffering through the evolution of the sport. Guys are now developing their power as their technique improves. He could get away with eating some punches and counter striking when you had wrestlers that were starting to learn how to box. Now you have these guys that have been training as true MMA fighters for years. it's getting to be really hard to find one trick ponies, like Leites, at that level.

Foot stomps are legal.

+1 to Dana being pissed.

I always thought foot stomps were legal too. But I could of sworn the ref told Silva not to.

Once Leites failed to control Silva, on the ground, I could see that Leites's will was broken.

This.

Someone else asked if the foot-stomp was legal... Rogan pointed out that it is not a legal technique in Canada.

Dunno why.

They are lucky to have MMA in Quebec, period.  There was an event put on by another promotion, just before the last UFC event in Montreal, which was held outside and it rained and a bunch of dudes got make the beast with two backsed up and the referees were bad...I don't recall everything.  Anyway, the Quebec Ministry of Sport (or whatever it is) were saying, "no more MMA", until the UFC begged scraped and got them to agree to some modified rules.  That is how foot stomps got eliminated; I think knees on the ground got axed, too, but I'm not sure.

Weird that they wouldn't want mma, but award GSP with athlete of the year.

Griffin versus Anderson in August.  Can't wait for this fight.  What a great situation for Forrest.  If he loses oh well Silva is supposed to be the best fighter in the world.  If he wins, wow!  Not sure he can but I do know that he won't stand there and get kicked or flop on the ground like Silva's last two opponents.

Forrest is good, but he won't win.

^^^^ Exactly.  Forrest has gotten a lot better, but he hasn't met a striker like Anderson.  Though, it will be interesting to see what kind of gameplan Randy puts together for him.
