Man that was rough to watch. Apparently Anderson was fighting with a broken rib, hence his lack of crispness. What amazed me most was how uncomfortable Silva looked sprawling and how wild his punches were. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Anyways, props to Sonnen, but the fake tap was a pregnant dog move, Team Quest should trademark it.

The rest of the fights pretty much went on as I expected them to, expect for the Hughes fight, the modified anaconda was awesome.

Big Country has one hell of a chin, but you could see he was visibly gassed from the second on, He would be a better fighter if he were in shape.

He did get a beating, and in all rights if Sonnen had made it to decision ( about two minutes left in the 5th round) it would have been unanimous. Silva even agreed with his quote "I knew that I was losing the first four rounds,” said Silva, who made the seventh successful defense of his title. “Chael put on a helluva fight tonight.”

but he didnt, he lost the match but gained silva's respect. I think in that fight Silva realized that he needs to kick his game up, rib injury or not, if he wants to maintain that title, because last night was sheer luck.

Well... he kinda got a beating.  I think Sonnen was very aware of Silva's submission ability, and didn't really tee off from the top-control position.  Sonnen stayed busy - he was certainly ahead on the cards and headed to a decision win - but there were only a couple occassions where he was throwing like he was trying to put Silva out.  There were a couple big elbows and a couple strong flurries, but mostly it looked like Sonnen was focusing on keeping Silva down and not getting trapped in a sub.

By way of comparison, had Silva spent that much time under Dan Henderson or Tito Ortiz, Silva's head would be hamburger.

In other news: I called Big Country, and he's gonna be O.K.  He had some swelling around his eye after the fight, but he pressed a frozen sausage biscut sandwich against it for about fifteen seconds before he microwaved it and ate it, and he's feeling fine.

Guida has always had heart. Now he needs skills.

Silva is lucky to have caught Sonnen with that triangle. If he hadn't been so tired, I doubt Sonnen would have been caught. If Silva fights Hendo again soon, he would lose. Simple as that. Tito, like Chuck, is done.

Big Country would not be Big Country without that big ass belly. He's a freak show.

TKO by Waffle House.

I frequent a couple of MMA forums and all the Sonnen fans are enraged because it was disrespectful to Sonnen for Silva to discredit his performance by mentioning his rib injury.  laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp

Yup, everyone is acting like Chael got robbed a decision or lost on a technicality. It's downright comical; it's also the reason why I stream the fights instead of watching them at a bar. I can't stand MMA fans.

Ex: The article CLEARLY states that Silva cracked a rib whilst sparring against Machida.

Nuthugger Reply:
"OMG I can't believe that Sonnen broke all of Silva's ribs!!! LOLOLOL He is a monster! I can't think of any 185 pounder as dominant! FTW! WAR SONNEN!

WTF?

And also apparently this:

Is somehow not a tap?

Silva's legs are so long that he has to pull the head down to really synch in that triangle. I guy with more BJJ experince could have sat back and positioned his arms in a way that it there might be enough space. Luder did this, but ended up tapping due to elbows from the triangle.

They shut down the one I always used right after 116, so for this time I just googled 117 live stream and checked if the sites were sketchy or not. They were actually pretty decent for computer resolution, but def not for a TV.

All the fights are up on mma-core.com the second after they're done anyways, so if you can wait I would just go there. They also have every single mma fight ever up. It will kill your free time.  Grin

Had Josh Rosenthal not been in really great position, Sonnen may have gotten away with it.

Judging by the way Silva didn't let up until Rosenthal intervened,  I like to believe had that been the case Sonnen would've ended up with a broken arm. Then again, I also like to believe that Silva can shoot lasers out of his eyes and goes back in time to hunt Tyrannosaurs in his spare time.

Yeah, Silva had the arm bar and triangle and he wasn't going to let them go until the ref jumped in. None of those guys will let up. They'll tell the ref "he's out" before letting go. It's what they train for. If you want to do an incognito tap, you need to smack the back of the thigh. But at that point he was getting desperate.
