That was awesome.  Grin

The Sanchez fight was amazing, apparently it takes a couple of years to recover from a BJ beating

Kampmann is a complete idiot for keeping the fight on the ground. He would've won if he had kept it standing up

Lesnar/Cain: I laughed so hard. It went exactly like I thought it would, just a little earlier than I had expected. Lesnar just doesn't like to get hit in the face. As soon as someone lands a punch, he goes into survival mode and turtles up.

That's one reason I never really liked Lesnar.  I always thought that if he stepped his boxing skills and cardio he would be an animal, but power dominance will only get you so far if you have no endurance.

Naw, no matter how good his boxing gets his instincts are always going to be the same. As soon as someone tags him in the face he starts backpedaling and running. Carwin exposed him, Cain beat him.

His wrestling wasn't even that good, Cain easily shrugged off the bullrush and got up in the blink of an eye.

I must say I was impressed with how humble he was in his post fight.

He was an ass the first fights, but I think Dana beat it out of his wallet, especially for the Bud Light comments. In his defense, it's tough to learn every aspect of MMA in 2 years. Now I think that if you're gonna revert to something it should have been his wrestling, but even that was questionable. Let's hope Cain remains humbled.

I'm here- just don't get on the internet much during the weekend.

What can I say.  Matador you pretty much called it before the fight started.  I was very impressed with Cain's ability to get right out of Lesnar's wrestling. I don't think he gassed just doesn't like getting hit and couldn't stop Cain from getting back up.

All around great card though. Some pretty cool finishes.

We'll see how this rolls.  Rogan seemed almost teared up when talking about there being a new "era" in the heavyweight division.  Seems to think Cain will be there for a long time to come.

I don't think this is the end of Brock by any stretch.

He need to leave his Deathclutch wrestling compound and go to Golden Glory in the Netherlands to learn some Kickboxing, but mostly get used to sparring with people that will hit him. I think that once he gets used to getting hit and fighting through it instead of running, he'll become the unstoppable force he was lauded as being.

As much as I hate to say it, I think he would benefit immensely from a Greg Jackson Camp.

Agreed. Every time I get back to the gym, I always "try" to get hit so that my body "remembers". Basically trying not to flinch when getting hit.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but when I first started training, my instincts would take over every time I would get hit and turn it into a brawl. It wasn't after I forced myself to learn how to relax that I actually started fighting intelligently.

Everyone reacts differently to getting hit. Some don't even feel it, some, like me, tend to forget about thinking and breathing, some, like Lesnar tend to retreat. It's all about fighting intelligently.

I was not being sarcastic. If you flinch you wouldn't know where the punch is coming from. It's a pregnant dog to learn enough technique to counter what nature has taught you.

+1 on the 'reaction to getting hit' comments.

It's interesting to me to see the contrast in responses between Cain and Lesnar with both of them coming from the wrestling background... a lot of the converted wrestlers that I kickbox with tend to revert back to wrestling tendencies once they get tagged (wide legs, hands low, head forward).  Lesnar had a similar response.  Cain ate a couple shots and didn't break form... pretty impressive.  He was able to wrestle when he needed to wrestle and box when he needed to box... that's high-level stuff.

I think Lesnar just ran into the guy with the right skillset and physical attributes to counter Lesnar's game.  I can't take anything away from Lesnar, 'cuz there's five of six guys that couldn't make that claim.

Bad match-ups for Cain:
JDS?
Mir?
Gonzaga?

Dunno....

JDS is probably Cain's biggest threat. He's the one guy in the HW division with sharper boxing than his. If Blackhouse got their shit together and brought in some very high level wrestlers to teach JDS to some takedown defense I think he has a pretty decent chance. But I think Cain would destroy him with devastating leg kicks to nullify the boxing advantage.

Mir would get his ass handed to him in an even more devastating fashion than Brock. For a BJJ expert, he has horrible takedowns and no wrestling. Cain would beat him up standing, take him down, and ground and pound him to a bloody pulp.

Gonzaga just got outboxed by Schaub. 'Nuff said.

Carwin potentially has the tools to do the job, but his punches are so telegraphed and slow (Albeit train-wreck hard) that I feel Cain would just dance around him until Carwin gasses in the second and proceed to give him his first loss by KO.

I just don't see anyone taking the belt away from Cain anytime soon. Which sucks, because I really wanna see JDS have it.

Watching the Big Country Vs. JDS fight is getting me psyched for the Velasquez/JDS fight.

When will that happen?  Feb or March??

I hate wait for GSP to kick his ass. You would think that if you got caught in a gijotine (sp?) the first time, you would try to defend it the second time. Not much of a wrestler that goes in there with his head under his arm instead of the other guy's chest.
