696 monster with 1098 Superbike forks

these looked the coolest of the different forks to upgrade 696--with the Nitrided lower legs in black, and a charcoal-tinted upper fork legs (the upper legs look more like plain silver in the pics.)
 machining of new or old parts necessary for the clamps, rotors, wheels,etc.
 the stock fender, calipers, and brake lines were all used with the (now fully adjustable) 1098 forks and axle.
I also changed out to M1100-size fat Handlebars and rizoma mounts at the same time.

To me, the stock 696 forks were by far the weak point of the bike-(no adjustments at all, and the dampening is only in one fork leg -the other leg is just a dummy fork tube w/ a spring)--the front end would NOT stay planted in turns for me..with the 1098 forks dialed in and correct springs front and rear, on the street it now corners well, at the same speeds as my superbikes....besides, black 1098 forks just plain look cool,- like they belonged there all the time.

 But you need to give up some more info on the machining process to get those to fit, there are many of us that want to do that same mod.

did you put a spacer on the lower triple? the SBK are 53mm and the monster is 54 right?

are the brakes 10mm or 15mm offset.

you machined the top from 50mm to 53. any issues?

did you measure the fork length's of both? how much higher in the triple do you need to bring the sbk fork to keep the geometry the same?

have you though about raising the rear and pulling for forks through to raise the whole bike now that you have longer forks?

myself and others have posted here already about fitting superbike forks to monsters.
 (as well as  answering " Raux's " emails about this stuff in the past.)

the gist of it is that  earlier style superbike forks are the simpler conversion, using
 the regular brembo gold calipers which will work with the 696 wheel and rotors. and the usual machining or replacing of the top clmp, and shimming or replacing of the lower clamp

the 1098 forks/axle use the 1098 monoblock calipers (or the stock 696 radial calipers -which are the same as an 848) aside from the  usual reworking of the clamps, it's necessary to fit a 1098 wheel, OR replace/ modify  the 696  rotors with  15mm offset.  the 696 wheel will fit the 1098 axle/forks if you make/add new axle spacers.

all superbike forks are longer than 696 forks. the 1098 forks more so than the early fork.
 the front height of the chassis (any fork) is  altered by sliding the forks up or down in the clamps.

my 696 chassis is setup taller than stock for more cornering clearance-  the front raised at the clamps, the rear  by a 12mm taller tire. (or a spacer in the shock)
--that, along with grinding the small tab on the kick stand to allows it to fold up out of the way keeps things from scraping  pavement.-at least when  i hang-off enough.

Also, the stock RR spring is progressive wound but way too soft (for 175 pound rider) i changed that out with a few shims and a radial bearing with Ohlins springs of the correct rate.

there's a set of  848 forks on ebay right now

to keep the stock height you need to pull the fork through the triples a bit. the only issue i see with that is the shock adjuster & handlebar trying to be in the same place. maybe requires a riser on the bars or clipons?

 cost depends what you pay for (mostly used) Ducati parts, and what you  pay for Machining. --  my front fork swap probably cost me something  like $1200-$1400
i have for sale what could amount to a kit:
A like-new set of the standard superbike forks (the easier conversion),  brembo goldline calipers and the shim material for  lower clamp   - $900. (see pic)
That setup would fit the 696 fender/wheel/ axle/ rotors, etc-  the only other thing needed is machining the top clamp  - i could do that at $115, or you can probably  find someone local for  bit less .

With this type of fork, it's possible to maintain the original ride height/fork length. On a 696 that may require adding  a spacer or washers under your handlebar mount- (to raise the bars to clear the rebound adjusters.)  -although with the stock handlebar, it may not be necessary to raise the bar..

If you wanted to get really crazy... a 1098 wheel swap would afford you the ability to run the 330mm rotors.  Not that I can see a 696 really needing that .

Oh, it wouldn't match at all.  You could probably find something similar for the rear, like a Marchesini aftermarket wheel or maybe a 999 rear wheel swap.

That said, I don't know much about the rotor bolt patterns for the new bikes.  Do the 696 wheels possess the same rotor bolt pattern as the SBK's? If that was the case a caliper spacer would be the only real change in bumping them up.  I'm assuming here that you just had a 5mm spacer made for the stock rotors anyways.

Not sure what you're trying to achieve,   -but  as i've mentioned above:
-The front and rear wheels would not, and cannot, be matched. 
-one could make 330mm rotors fit the stock wheel if really wanted,
-The monster calipers aren't the same to start with (1098's have monobloc calipers)   

if you find that your monster really needs more brake, better to just change out to the $1200 monobloc calipers, fit racing pads,  and a radial master cylinder-- for me, i don't find my 696 particualrly needing for more brakes.-or  more rotor ;-)

IIRC the 1098 also has the same 5mm spacer on it.

Not trying to achieve anything really, just fleshing out all the possibilities
