So I started a thread about the new Mad Max movie which inadvertently turned into a conversation about diecast cars and collecting. It only seemed right to start an official thread. So post up what you've got if you're a collector - 1:18 or 1:24th scale - it doesn't matter!

I've always loved TV/Movie cars, so in the other thread I started it out with my newest edition:

Mad Max Interceptor

Making number 27 in my collection of famous cars (1:18 scale).

No one else collects diecast cars? Really??

Well, my Mad Max Interceptor made by Autoart arrived last night and I've got to say "WOW" doesn't even do it justice!

Packaging:
It came in a really nicely designed box with art and summary information from the film on it along with a really nice picture of the car unlike most boxes which have a clear "window" on them, this was a sealed box and classy at that.

When I opened it, I found a Styrofoam container molded to fit the car and keep it safely sealed inside the box and it was also screwed to the bottom just to be extra sure to keep it from shifting during shipping.

Detail:
The detail of this replica is amazing. Autoart pulled out all the stops with this one! From the the glossy over matte/satin black paint scheme, to the smalled details like the hidden knife on the chassis and the soft belt on the engine - fantastic! The tires are soft and have BFGoodrich so clearly legible and textured on all 5 tires - yes that's right 5 tires!!

Accessories:
Few diecast replicas come with accessories, but this one came with a slew of them! The biggest of them is "Dog" Max's only friend. For both he an Max, there's a box and 2 cans of DinkiDi dog/human food, along with 2 machete knifes that fit into sheaths - one in the drivers side door, one on the underside of the chassis near the rear of the car. As support resources, there are also 2 gas cans and a spare tire on a chain. Fantastic!!

Overall this car is an +A. It's got so much detail that I was really beside myself. Now I've got protected and on display in an airtight container to keep dust from ever touching this beauty!

Here are a few more pics of the amazing attention to details:

Monster Dave needs to post more pics.....

I need that Mad Max diecast....smartassed comments aside, a lot of these things become very valuable. Quite a few of mine already are.

As stated elsewhere, I'm pushing 100 1:18 scale cars, which I've collected since the early 1990s. My fleet consists primarily of Fords and Ferraris, with one or two oddities thrown in. A friend of mine is heavily into woodworking, and built my display cases cheap:

I'll try to get some pics of my cars here soon. I haven't take a "family picture" in a while!

Nice - I like the first pick with all the Ferrari's - it's like a Ferrari museum.  [thumbsup]

I know there's a lot of people who collect things like this, and you're right, they do jump in value over night depending on how rare they are. Most of the ones that I own aren't being made any longer which makes them hard to find and increases value. The part thats hardest for me is keeping sealed display cases in stock for them - I refuse to put them out if they'll get dusty - 1:18th scale cases like that are getting harder and harder to find.

I was looking for a 308 for a girl in the office for her desk (she has magnum PI crush).   but at over $100 bucks I don't think so.

does anyone actually sell off collections that have increased in value though?  (other than kids who inherit them?)

As an avid TV/Movie car collector, I've wanted a Magnum 308 GTS for a while, but only one company made one that was similar and it was over $100, but not the exact correct car. Hotwheels is coming out with one specifically for Magnum some time before the end of the year as part of thier elite collection, so it will probably be around $100 but at least it will be accurate - we'll see.

As to your question, I'm not sure as I haven't wanted to part with any of mine. However, other collectors (like myself) are always on the lookout for rare cars. One that's on my list is the Yellow Cuda from Nash Bridges:

These were extremely limited. Less than 500 I think.

Good eye - and the street Aussie Falcon XB GT351 in front of Starsky.

I was wondering which car the Falcon was. Way cool!
