Can you solve this mathematical mystery?
«
on:

Three businessmen decide to get a hotel for the night. They are told by the inn keeper the cost is 30$ for the room. They each pay the inn keeper with a 10$ bill.
The inn keeper then realizes the hotel room is only 25$ and he has over charged the men, but is not sure how to refund the money the money based on the amount and it being among 3 people.
So he decided to give each man a dollar back (3 total) and keep 2$ for himself. This adds up to the 5$ refund.
However, explain this:
Each man paid 9$ and the inn keeper kept 2$
9 x 3 = 27
Innkeep = 2
That is 29.
Where the make the beast with two backs is the other dollar?

The innkeeper actually kept $27 ($25 for the room plus $2 extra). The salesmen kept $3. $27 plus $3 = $30

Right, I am aware of that.
However, the men each got back 1$, so each had paid 9$.
9 x 3 = 27
The inn keeper kept 2 dollars.
The math does not add up when you do it on paper.

Okay, fine then.
((30 - 3)/3) -2 + 3 +2 = 30

This is a case of misdirection. The two dollars should be subtracted, not added, from the total:
($10 - $1) x 3 - $2 = $25

Wait. That would make it $26. Now I'm confused. When is recess?

$30-$5=$25
$25/3=$8.3333
$8.3333+1=$9.33333
$9.3333*3=$28.00
$28.00+2=$30
the flaw is using 30-3 to signify the refund. the refund is $5 and innkeeper is stealing $2 of it.
Thus, the charge to the biznizmen is $8.333- which is $25 total (yes, one of them is on the hook for 0.3334 cents). Add the dollar refund that they DID receive back in and you have $28 (27.99999) now add the stolen $2 in and you have $30 (29.99999)
