There is a lesson here...get the plate number of the car and let them go...when you chase people down bad things happen, you wreck, get arrested, get shot.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...macho grunt...kill the make the beast with two backsers...  Whatever, I carry a gun everyday and I am very prepared to physically defend myself; but the path of least resistance is always the right path.  If this guy let the cops do their job, he wouldn't have gotten shot.  NOT THAT SHOOTING HIM WAS RIGHT.  But as a motorcyclist I think you have to have the mindset of what is the safest option.  Chasing = not safe.

I know everyone is going to disagree with me here.  Sorry.

my testosterone will disagree with you, even yell at you but my brain knows you are dead right. i will forever try not to let emotion get involved. that's for the ladies.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room.

There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.  The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. And in bacon.

Following a couple girls who did something stupid, provided they're driving fairly normally, doesn't sound unsafe to me.  It's hard to imagine (for most people) getting shot as a possible outcome of that scenario.  I think I would have stopped after the sideswipe and just reported it, but who knows.

On the other hand, in road rage incidents in general it's best just to back off.  The very best outcome of any such situation is just getting a chance to tell the other person they are, in your humble opinion, an idiot.  There are, however, many worse outcomes as this case certainly shows.

would you have followed them to get the plate number? maybe followed further until they stopped then call the police and have a report taken in person with all the evidence there?

even after knowing what happened to this kid, i'd still do the exact same thing and follow 'em until they stopped.

i wouldn't even have to talk to them. they've committed a hit and run. call it in and let the police and my insurance sort it out.

I blame the daughters more than the father ...no doubt they lied to him, and portrayed an image that some nut case biker was trying to harm his baby girls.  Not to say that shooting the biker was excusable, because its not,  ...it probably could have been avoided if they (the daughters) didn't do stupid to begin with and lie.

Which is why lying is a capital offense and murder is a misdemeanor....?  Stupid a-hole dudes sometimes raise stupid a-hole daughters.  (Isn't that a John Mayer song?)  But clearly the "adult" here should have not let some gossipy teenagers get him so worked up that he was willing to SHOOT A MAN IN THE BACK!

iirc, the father has a history of looking for reasons to discharge his weapon.

So, there hasn't been a hearing yet, if I understand correctly?  I'm not very well versed in the legal system.  They have picked the crimes they're charging him with and will hold trial to find a verdict?

I sure hope he doesn't get off on some self defense BS.  Doesn't sound like he will stand a chance though, especially since he shot the guy IN THE BACK.  I hope he gets all that he deserves.

There has been an indictment and prelim hearing (for bail) and based on the charges no bail was allowed.

Indictment is the laying of charges by a grand jury based on a presentment of evidence, nothing can be excluded and no rebuttal of evidence either.

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I dont disagree, but i wonder if you'd follow your own advice.

I'm sure you know how BJ(the rider who got shot) felt when that car side swiped him and the evil b*tches tried to run away.  His adrenaline started pumpin and anger took over common sense.  You even said yourself that you were "intimidating" towards the driver who caused your accident so he'd stay at the scene.  Not trying to call you out, but what if that guy was carrying and like a stupid teenager, pulled it out and shot you in "self defense?"

Some people might react by intimidating the offending driver, and some people chase them down to give them a piece of their mind.  We've all felt road rage, and can only imagine how BJ felt.  Again Raulduke, not calling you out cause I know you displayed a ton of self control two days ago, but just pointing out that in the heat of the moment common sense is often thrown out the door.

Thanks for posting this!

I remember when this story was posted on TOB. Almost everyone had the same suspicions: motorcycle rams a truck?

I'm pleased he'll be doing hard time. In my perfect world, the daughters would also be charged and convicted.

Yeah, it's hard to say what you'd do from the outside.  Well, easy to say but hard to know.  I said I think I'd stop right away - certainly though I'd try to get the plate but once you have that you really do have all you need.  I haven't been riding for very long - just over a year - and I think just getting hit would be enough to make me want to stop and chill for a bit.

These road rage cases, and really this is pretty much one, are just so insane anymore that your best bet is to back off.  You never know who's just that little bit over the edge.

Right now, that isn't in the DA's priority. There is still time down the road we've been told, especially the driver Chelsea.

There's hope, but just not right now.

Good to know. I hope he goes up for a long time, and she does too.
