I've lusted over the Monsters for a long while and now I have one. Even though I love my bike I am now lusting for a single sided version. Here's the dilemma.....

I've found a bone stock '07 s2r 800 with 450 miles the asking is $8500 and financing is the only option in my world right now. Good deal or pass??

Or

Suck it up, save the coin, and finance the M1100?

Smack some sense in to me....please!

I'm no S2R expert, but that sounds like a good deal to me.

well...
here's the thing...
i don't think the S2R800 is going to be much of a step up from your 750, despite the SSSA.
non-adjustable forks, kindof a sloppy suspension altogether really (i'm working on it)...
not much more power either.
for $8500, i would just save up a little more cash and get the M1100.
for a reference point, i paid $7200 for my 2006 3 years ago, with about 2k on the clock. I tad bit more mileage, but still basically a new bike.
$8500 feels a bit steep to me, but it's all relative to location, supply, and of course... demand.
My vote is save up for M1100, or even maybe wait for a decent S2R1000 to come along. You'd get into it for probably around the same price.

don't get me wrong though, I love my S2R800. it's bullet proof.

For reference:

I got my 08 S2R1k with 0 miles on it last April 09:  paid $9500.00

I picked up my '07 S2R 800 in October of '08 with 137 miles on it for $7,500.  It was ridden once in '07 and was kept on ice the whole summer of '08. Needless to say I picked it up from a motivated seller who was liquidating his toys because he was stuck with 2 houses.  His Porsche Speedster went first, then his boat.  Poor guy, lucky me.  I've seen '07s with up to 7,500 miles listed for around $8,000.  Get it, it's brand new.
I met this girl named Virginia.  She said "nice bike, you can call me Virgin for short, but not for long"

Where are you located?  I would have to say that I don't feel it is that much of a good deal for an '07 S2R800, regardless of how few miles it has on it.  I had an S2R800 for a while, and grew tired of it much quicker than I thought I would have.  As said, the suspension is a real weak point on that bike, and I personally feel that you could get much more for your money in this day in age for what that bike, and any additional mods (suspension, brakes and/or exhaust) would run you.

So, that brings me once again to ask; where are you?  There are a few places on the west coast where you can get brand new KTM SDs for that kind of money, and that is a hell of a lot more motorcycle than any S2R.  Just saying...

i think thats over priced up the ass. ive been looking at a new bike for the past 2 months.

The avg price of an s2r800 around my neck of the woods (Northeast) is around $5500.

How about you give me $8500 and ill buy an S2R800 with full termi exhaut and ride it down for you.  ;D Id make atleast 2grand off you.

heres the only 2 examples from my area. Its dry as hell for bikes up here since its winter though, so not much to see.

+ i wouldnt go for an S2R800, unless you were going to swap forks/brakes anyway. because an s2r1k isnt that much more....

1) Overpriced
2) Not that much of an upgrade
3) Financing toys is a bad plan. Save up for the one you want, and buy it, cash.

Yeah, I can't improve on that.

It the subject bike for the "$4000 custom" on our website.

Get the 1000 for sure.

I completely agree with the line about not financing toys.  Buy something older, with more miles, or simply wait it out.  The used market will always be there, try to make a dispassionate decision.

That said, I'd wait on the 1000.  I have an S2R1k and absolutely love it.  That said, if I had it all to do over again, I'd probably go for the S4r....but this was also my first bike so maybe I'm better off.

theres a s4rs for 8500 on the monsters for sale. that would be an upgrade. but i dont like 4v monsters. looks nice, but eh. better off in an sbk frame.

Then it's official.  Duc750 needs to buy an 1198S!   [moto]

I would reference the Monster For Sale section to see how much S2R's are going for.  You might want to step up to S2R1000, having coming from 750.  You can find one with low mileage for heck of lot cheaper than $8500.
