Instead of the coffee table, pitch it up on end, figure a way to use 4 pistons and rods as legs, have a round tempered glass top made and make one kick ass pub table.

with storage for wine bottles in the cylinder bores...

You can't tell me that no one out there is making anything cool - share it here!

In order to bump this thread, here's a picture of a trophy I just finished this morning - a friend of mine is putting on a Strava-based (I think...) mixed Mountain/Road race that kind of follows along with the Tour de France. He wanted something with a mountain bike, a road bike, and a rough approximation of our local landmark, Thumb Butte.

Nope; six of the Bimmer slugs are still frozen in the block awaiting some brute force, and the other six will need some serious cleanup before they find a home in anything - I'll probably leave the pistons attached to the rods & make helmet hooks like the one further up this thread from a Chevy 350 piston & rod.

They do come from the same source, however - my neighbor, the automotive machinist & owner of the $350 Paso featured in another thread. His scrap barrels at work are FULL of treasures!

Most scrap bins hold tons of treasures.

I know ours at work does.

So my wife and I decided to buy some high dollar Amish made bedroom furniture. Heirloom pieces to be sure based on the quality and most probably the last set of bedroom furniture we will ever buy.
But after my daughter moved in, we ended up moving my 2 channel system into the bedroom. The Zebrawood rack doesn't really match the rest of the bedroom furniture so I decided that a new rack was in order.
Cherry with natural finish was the decision. But similar design to the original Zebrawood model. Made a few refinements and away I went. The Zebrawood rack is moving down to the living room and will be home to the home theater gear.

Picking up the raw materials...

(The wife really wants a Guanacaste live edge slab dining table after seeing this behemoth..future project maybe...but I digress.)

I had to biscuit join the shelves as there aren't many 17 inch wide cherry boards to be found too often.

Dadoed and drilled the legs...

Glued, screwed, pegged and sanded...just need to finish sand, install the feet/isolation cones and then I am ready to finish sand and finish...

I also ended up with 7 more cutting boards from scrap hardwood...

Last of the batch ready to be shipped...there were 2 smaller walnut and cherry "bar" boards that went to local friends.

Did this last spring, not much compared to a lot of the artwork in this thread, but it was an "I'll give it a shot and see how it comes out" and turns out, I really like it...now I need to duplicated it in the rest of the house.

2 tone oak window sil.  Off the shelf wood from the local big box store.  2" oak, 1" bull nose trim from the stair tred section.  Minwax red oak stain for the bullnose, natural finish stain for the insert.  Glued and biscuit jointed the pieces together and carefully fit the bull nose returns with a couple predrilled 4d finish nails.  Carefully scraped and sanded the glue resedue (to not harm the stain).  Installed and applied 3 coats of Spar Urethane.

I also posted a pile of wood a year or so ago.  Just thought I would post what it turned into:

Zilbert...still have a lot of pine I need gone...as well as the cherry and the ash... Wink Wink

^ Nice, since I can't do squat with wood I always admire those that can and the outcome of their work and talent. waytogo I'm like my late father, working on metal things with wrenches is OK but I can't cut two pieces of wood the same length and I hate to paint.

I've always liked this thread. Some talented and creative DMFers out there.

I may have to come up for a visit. I am going through my wood stock like...well any food item through a goose.

The rack is finished. Just waiting on the isolation cones to show up and then I will be swapping it out. Unfortunately, now my wife wants me to build a cherry bookcase for the bedroom to replace the mission style oak one currently in there...
