Some really nice projects shown! I like the piston helmet / coat hanger - might have to source one.

Not artistic, but still fun and something different.

I have been doing a lot of arduino uno projects lately - anyone else into micro controllers?

My job is microcontrollers, so.. yeah, you kind of have to be "into it"

Mitt -- I'm thinking of teaching a two week long intensive class for High School students this Spring on the Maker Movement, and know that I need to know a whole lot more than I do about the Arduino and similar open source items (among other things) -- Look for a PM from me down the road as I start to try to get my brain around the syllabus. I sense a bit of barter might be in order...

Sounds fun. I am a novice, but between google and trial, it isn't too difficult.
Here is a little solenoid moving:

I think I may have a problem...an addiction if you will...
More stock for boards...
Then I whipped up the materials to make 3 checkerboard patterned end-grain ones...these were before I glued and clamped em.
They are done and have been oiled once so far but I haven't gotten pics yet.
I also threw together some wall boxes to mount flanking the fireplace for BDs and DVDs...

Any of you woodworkers use ammonia to fume your projects? I am a big fan of Stickley furniture and have made a few pieces but never have used this method to darken the wood. Always relied on stains, etc.

Zilbert, I am super jealous. I did some luthiery work for my first full-time job as an adult, and I was immediately hooked on woodworking. I used to have a nice small collection of hand tools, a router table, small table saw, etc. I eventually gave them away to friends as my career changed and my apartments got smaller and smaller.
Working with wood is just such a joy: the smell of sawdust, the sound of a hand plane shaving off a layer, fitting a perfect mitre, just looking at weird slabs of wood at the local lumber store and thinking about what you can do with it---it's all such a throwback and so pleasurable. Keep posting pics and let me live vicariously through you.

It is when it isn't full of crap from his jobs. Hehe. But then his jobs supply me with about 90% of my wood for projects.
