it's nice, but it's been done.  750SS converted to a cafe racer w bump seat.  they should have done something more with the exhaust, they just used slipons and the stock header.  i like the change in look with the headlite, but it looks like just a monster up front.  forks are cool too.  also move the oil cooler to under the frame to reduce the effect.

I'm building a shop in the back.  Once the kids are a little older...

This is the last build I did, but it's been >8 years now.  I like replicas

The forks are not real magnesium.  I took a regular set of Marzocchi 35s and had them pc'd to match the color.  I just couldn't find them and when I did, they were ridiculously expensive.

The engine is actually a 650 with the external parts correct.  The clutch was the hardest to source, that's from an Elefant 350.  Same with the calipers.  Regular F08s recoated.  Fairing and tank came from Mario Sassi, the exhaust headers are original and refinished, megaphone is custom made.  The tip has a set screw so you can take the end out and add packing to make it more streetable.  Wheels are regular FPS painted to match the forks (as original, but not magnesium).   Seat came from ebay, frame is a ground up build to copy the Verlicchi.





assembly.  so nice when everything is clean.


on the work bench.  by the time I sold it, i had put cam oilers in, which is also not original but helps the engine immeasurably.

EVERYTHING was hand-soda blasted and polished.  that clutch cover was originally black.

i'd really love to do a "real" TT2, meaning use the real magnesium parts etc but the forks usually for 4-6 grand when you can find them.  same with the wheels, and if you buy used ones, there is no telling what condition they are in.  the old -school mag wheels are occasionally compromised and break.  the weight difference was about 7-8 lbs iirc.  using the 650 engine actually made the engine a tad lighter as the jugs are thinner and lighter.  the real TT2 also used oddball 81mm jugs which are unobtanium (of course one can bore an 80mm set).  but i was fine with using the 650.

i picked up most of the engine parts while in italy on several trips.. wife and i used to go there a lot - BK - before kids -- and I would always hit the "Scambios" and buy stuff..   It is absurd to buy things like dellorto carbs off ebay for 350-500 when you can get the same thing at a swap meet for 75-100 euro.. it's worth it just for the trip to italy..

anyhow.. i miss that bike, i only kept it for 8-9 months before selling it.

TT2 replica to be fair.  Lots of differences, but I tried making it as close as possible.  It was hard letting that bike go, but I have a "10 bike limit" rule, thanks to the Mrs... and the buyer made me an offer I couldn't refuse -- no, not a horse head.

I've seen the converted 750SS done before too, but I think the Wrench Monkee version just comes together well.  Most of the others I've seen just don't look as right, sort of like this one... Tongue

derby, but this is what I would do to make a naked SS

I actually have a spare tank off a '92 with the "pip" gas vent instead of the bar type on the '94 and up....

...and a spare frame that has been rewelded (head crack) and lightened some...

..hmm
