I need either that or some quick advice on putting my duc back together. I was in the middle of fixing the shifter fork spring and alternator generator when I had to perform a military obligation, forgetting how the thing went back together    Embarrassed

1) I need to know which direction the clutch control rod goes back in (In reference to the rounded end and the O-Rings)

2) I need to know which way the flywheel's inner ring installs in reference to its broad side and the engines inner case.. Item #18 and that washer #17 looks alot thicker on the diagram than the thin one I seem to have...

Cheers,
Christopher

Clutch pushrod; O-rings toward the left side.

Which # on the diagram is "flywheel inner ring"?

It's in no way attached to the flywheel, it just slips on the spindle with it Smiley

It goes together as shown in that diagram.

Put some grease on the washer #17 to hold it in place for installation.
Make *absolutely* sure that it hasn't slipped out of place before you tighten the nut.

Will do, thanks man.  Why would they make a washer whose inner diameter is larger than the spindle it rests on?

ID of washer #17 is just slightly bigger than the snout on #18.

Not sure why they did it that way.

Not that Speeddog needs this, but I can completely confirm the above information and yes....#17 is like wafer-thin.

Does it really matter the position of the tick marks on the flywheel in reference to the piston position? Idk if they've ever given me a correct TDC reading since I've owned the bike~

Well, at the very least, it's better to get it right, just to avoid confusion in the future.

What model and year of Monster?

The white mark you have circled needs to line-up with the small gear that is keyed onto the crankshaft.  That alignment is what keeps the valves from kissing the pistons.  I don't know what other mark you have circled in that picture, but it's not the alignment for the timing.

IIRC, there's a dot on the center hub of the flywheel that lines up with a slot or a mark on the crank, such that the hashmarks on the flywheel will give you a correct TDC and Ignition point in the sidecover window.

I think that's what he's talking about..

Yeah it's for the timing mark in the window, I never use it when I shim, I just go with watching the valves for compression / exhaust strokes and with a screwdriver in the spark plug's hole.

Turbine engines are so much easier than these things. Hell, even the boxer engines on a Cessna are more straightforward, but magnetos are no fun to sync...

Edit: I didn't take any other gears off other than the (#20) pictured~ And that just engages the crank from the starter I thinkkkkkkkkk...
