Towing with a car

I've been looking for a truck for like a year now, and am shifting gears (haha get it) toward a car.

It's a better fit right now.  Im taking steps to leave my job and start my own thing (which would require some travel) and it would fit with that better than a truck would (from a mileage standpoint.)

Im looking at a 2004 Accord EX-L V6 with the 6spd manual.  It makes 240HP :D

I have to be able to get my bike to the track at least a few times a year.  Hitches are available.  U-haul says this car can tow 2000 pounds.

If a bike weighs 400 (we'll round up) that leaves 1600pounds for a trailer.  Call it 1500 to be safe.

Surely there has to be a bike trailer out there that would work for me. . .

Have any of you done this sort of thing with a car?  Know someone that did so with success?

For that matter, anyone know anything about these cars?  I've had Accords and Preludes in the past and can work on these cars with a great deal of comfort.  That's mainly what drove me (damn I'm on a roll today ;D ) to look at Honda's again.

Yeah, you can definitely tow stuff with a Honda...   [thumbsup]

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

No way. .

We're in the same boat...

Looking for a towing vehice that's not a truck.

We are thinking of a trailer like this:

'01 ST4 Yellow
'02 ST4s Yellow

That's exactly what I'd need.

Cool!

I've towed three sportbikes w/ a 4-banger toyota camry with no problem w/ a trailer like that.
And 1,000's of miles too -- Atlanta to Ohio and back many times. No problems what so ever.

Harbor Freight has a small trailer too.

Thanks.  Good to know!   [thumbsup]

We are looking more towards Subi Legacy GT/Audi S4/allroad.

Legacy is a good car/stout engine, but I love the S4!

We bought a very high mileage Legacy 4dr a few years back and I swapped in a very low mileage engine into it.l

I thought it was a well built car and the engine was easy to work on.  AWD was cool.

WHen I got the new engine running it ran rough.  Really rough but I was able to drive around the block to shake it down.

I thought it had a dead cylinder.

It had 2!!!

One I was able to fix with a new (not broken) plug wire.  The other had a dead injector that I traced all the way back to the computer's board :o

New computer and she's been good for years :)  My mom has been driving it ever since.

I don't know anything about Audi's, but they look cool [thumbsup]  I once raced (well, more like side by side high speed runs) an TT well past 130mph when I had my 675.

I got up next to the guy to give him the [thumbsup] and he was already giving me the [thumbsup]

[laugh]

Made an offer on the Accord tonight. . .

looks like I'll be flying to St Louis weekend after next :D

My GF has a 2004 Accord EX-L Coupe with Navigation.  I would definitely say it has the power to tow.  We love that car.

Is the one you are looking at have navigation?  There is a downside to it but I won't even explain that if the car doesn't have it.

I once towed a 2000 lb loaded Uhaul trailer on the back of a '97 Chevy Beretta 4 cylinder from Ohio to Arizona without much trouble...forget the fact that I couldn't use the AC, but it made it without any problems!

I think you'd be alright with what you're looking at! LOL
