Me too, though I wish it reminded me more of the data tablets in Avatar

It looks very promissing.

I am not sure what everyone was expecting but its a tablet  ;D

The only big bummer for me so for that I can tell is the no multitasking. I was hoping for a more robust operating system but that will come down the road with software updates.

I am sure its going to shine in the apps department. I can see this being a pretty cool gaming platform.
I currently dont own a tablet and I love my Iphone so I can see myself picking one of these up.

Not to be too trollish about it but I really don't see the point of it. It seems like another product that is trying to create a niche for itself. And as far as the whole e-book thing, I still prefer the feel of a real paper book. Also, what was with Jobs making comments like "the key board is a dream to type on..." Really Apple, don't bruise yourself by patting your back so hard.

It's a marketing release. No one introduces a product and says, "eh...it's ok I guess"

I'm with you though on the whole e-book thing. My eyes get tired reading from a backlit display and I find reading a book far better, so that feature does nothing for me.

At first glance, I see this as a laptop replacement for someone who really doesn't need a laptop and just wants a handheld appliance to check E-mail, surf the web etc. What really intrigues me is the development lifecycle Apple has planned. I have to think they plan on integrating this into a more complete digital household concept that they've been pushing towards.

I use my iphone for work...I access the Court's web-based document system on which we draft and file all pleadings.  I text and email attorneys in my office constantly.  I don't need to carry a laptop around with me because my phone does it all, and after trying other business phones I like the iphone's screen and ease of moving 'windows in windows' with two fingers a lot.  (like scrolling inside an email but not scrolling the entire screen).

I did not think something bigger would be of any interest...except...now document production for certain proceedings are going to be electronic...meaning sitting at trial table we will be scrolling through multiple hundreds of pages on a screen for termination of parental rights hearings.  a laptop is more than I need for my staff...a notebook would work ok.    This could cover all needs in one device.  Accessing the Court system for pleadings and orders though the net is great here too.   I have no problems with ATT 3g in the DC/Baltimore metro area at all.

As a work tool for our particular needs it just may be perfect.   I'll try one and let one attorney try one before equipping them all.

Our needs are quite unique...but there's at least one example of practical, non-facebook use.   ;D

Here's another possible use (emphasis is mine):

Quote from: ato memphis on January 26, 2010, 07:20:54 AMAt SMU, for example {I am currently in law school at this fine establishment}, the vast majority of law students (more than 95%) use laptops for class notes as well as exams. Similar numbers are probably found in the non-hard-science undergraduate classes. Its just too difficult to use a laptop to take notes for calculus, etc, so that's not a target market really.

I agree - for notes and ideas and meetings about math and engineering, it would be neat - but I probably need something more like a laptop, with a spreadsheet function + drawing function at the same time.  It would be really cool if they were integrated and parametric.  Maybe I should just make an app for that  ;D

I am sure that my SO and I will end up with at least one. We cannot seem to resist the siren song of shiny new Apple products.
BUT, I was one of those suckers that bought the first Iphone. I hope to ignore the hype and wait for the second generation Ipad to come out...

but it is soooo shiny and nifty and new...

I still have the original edge Iphone. I am not to tempted to pickup the new one yet considering the original one still can do 99% of what the new one can do... okay but slower =)

If people are in the e-book market and are going to drop $489 on a Kindle DX then it should be a no brainer to pick up the $499 Ipad. HD Screen, Movies, email, much better web browser, gaming , tons of apps... the list goes on and on and on.
