That is cool how the valves actually spin.  Are they designed to spin for a reason?

valves don't spin, the cams do.

they spin to open the valves (which are then closed by the springs).

edit: i think you're seeing them spin due to vibration.

I think he is talking about how the valves are rotating, which they are supposed to do (you can see the red marks on the springs as they rotate).  It is to prevent uneven wear.

If you watch the video, the valve spring and retainer rotate as well at high RPM.  I'm no valve train engineer, but I remember someone telling me they are designed to rotate so they wear evenly.

Anyone know how many RPMs that would have been?  I thought it was going to explode there for a minute.
Speed is always relative.

I'm surprised there is so much oil burn off  :o  I thought it was meant to be more stable at those temps.

I'm guessing it's less "burn off" and more "really fine atomization" due to the speed at which those parts are moving.

Yea that video is way cool. I've only owned one 4 cylinder bike, a VFR1000 Interceptor back in 84 - a pig of a motorcycle, but it would do 155 mph.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but if I were buying a new bike right now, it could well be on of those Beemers.

Have a seat on one. They are tiny.  193HP?
