Ok so maybe I'm not the first, but I sure haven't seen a tint job to a stock 696 windscreen on here yet. I have seen aftermarket screens, but I don't really care for them

so when i started researching this, I looked into real tint first. That won't work because: 1) its plastic, tint won't stick and 2) its too round of a shape

Then i looked into spray tint. This is the method lots of guys use on taillights on cars. I like the look, but its permanent (some say you can wet sand it off and buff to a factory finish, screw that) and you can screw it up when spraying it on

so i looked into vinyl wrapping. Guys use this a lot to make their cars matt black. I ran into this first working with other bimmer and audi fans at my old job. They showed me this dope ass(!!!!) Audi RS4 Avant (only available in Europe...) that was wrapped matt black

So I proceeded to contact companies about samples or tinted vinyl. Vinyl works better because it is more directional than regular tint, meaning it can stretch around curved surfaces a lot easier. this as perfect for me.

after contacting a company (hom will remain anonymous for a while to be greedy) i got a huge roll of tinted dark grey vinyl for free(normally like 40 bucks) as a sample (yay me)

i did try it out myself, but after saying screw it (pictures to come) i took it to a tint shop where for $20 they wrapped it for me

the color of the tint is a little "warm" for me, if you know what i mean.

i am happy with it, i was running no windscreen at all, but this is cool

yes the vinyl has UV stabilizers in it, and yes, You can peel it off in the future if you feel like it

now for some pictures. what do you guys think? The pictures do make it look lighter than it really is.

Wish I had my bike handy....

Did they separate the screen from the nosecone before they tinted it?  If so how easy is it to get it apart??

I think a dark tint would look great on my Red 696.

Thanks,

Yeah I removed the screen first, super easy. I won't be a jerk, email Oracal, they m ake vynil, ask for a sample, the first sample they sent me was a dark tint 5 x 7  and a light of the same size. i asked for a larger sample, they sent it, i still have more left over. it might have been 5 ft. long by 12 inches wide!
the screen is only attached by a fe screw on front, super easy to do yourself.

My tint guy said they won't tint plastic anymore because it contracts at a different rate than the plastic and has been known to crack the screen.

Nice job man.. that vinyl idea was a very good idea. i was told the same thing about the tint and plastic when i initially wanted to darken my windscreen. The easiest and best decision i came up with at the time was to just paint the inside of the screen black. And it came out real nice. Its not like we look through the damn thing anyway...

well i guess we'll see, i like the look without the screen anyway, if it breaks it breaks.

This works well, sprayed from the inside you get the gloss of the plastic and looks good
