I heard the shock on the 695 is bad.  Could this cause lower back pain?  I drove for three hours and it seemed like the shock wasn't doing much.  Is the stock shock adjustible?

My back has been hurting for three days.

Hey Piller.  The problem is your riding posture and that you're not in shape for long-distance riding, not the shock.  It *could*--depending on your weight--not work as well as you'd like, but it almost certainly isn't what is causing your pain.

The shock is adjustable for preload (which you should adjust -- how much do you weigh?), but not for rebound or compression.  Your next questions should probably be a follow-up about proper posture, followed by a tech question about preload, rebound and compression, and how to set your preload.

P.S.  You ride a bike, not drive it.  Wink

Ok.  I weigh 180.  I'll look into the posture and preload stuff.  Is the rear shock a very noticeable improvement to make?  I did seem to feel every bump.

Your rear is set up for someone lighter than you, so you'll want to adjust the preload.

Changing out the entire rear shock will make a really big difference in how your bike feels, but so will adjusting the preload and maybe changing out the spring.

Changing your posture, how you hold yourself up on the bike, how you use your legs and how tightly your grip the bars will also have a drastic effect on whether you feel all the bumps or not.

BTW, did you check your tire pressure?  That will also make a big difference.  And if it's cold out, that too will affect how well your suspension works.

Here's a good tutorial I found:

http://www.ducatisuite.com/rearsuspension.html

I'm surprised that site's still around.  Is the person who made that on this forum?

Doesn't the 695 shock have rebound adjustment like the earlier Monsters?  My M800 shock does...

Hmmm.  It appears that . . .

P.S.  We're not talkin' about rollin' that pretty bike of yours into the back of the truck and takin' it to the shop for more bling.  That's definitely driving.   Grin

The standard yellow spring is very soft but also nice to your back.
I upgraded to some orange Metise and its hard and higher now and better on the track but also harder to ride over four hours or so.
Go to the gym for four weeks daily..
Look for the back crunch machine..
Find a weight you can lift 20x3 times.
increase it every two or three days.
I bet the problems goes away before June.
