or a ktm. i demoed the other superduke 990 when muskrat did. Good times. Nice sound from stock pipes, could use some adjustment for the on/off throttle response. Power was good, but needed resprung so it didn't squat as much when i gassed it. clearly not a true supermotard. was comfortable though. just wasn't as good as the duc.

Look for a 2006 or newer.  Better valves, carbs, tranny, and other stuff.

Oh crap, just discovered the Aprilia SVX, and they's cheap used. less than 6K, and my God do they fly.

Be wary of the 2007 models though, the motors would grenade themselves from time to time.

SXV....most fun i've ever had on two wheels. 08 and on are good...very high strung though. The 07's weren't technically street legal either. It likes to have one wheel in the air...doesn't really care which ones  [evil] and it's 280lbs wet.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

My 525exc in reta motard trim is a hoot.  But you pay for that hoot, in the form of checking/setting the valves ever 40 hours of run time.  Or changing the oil a LOT more often (hold 1.5qts).  The SXV is the same, but even more fun.

We ride ducs, so who gives a shit about maintenance right?  Get the SXV, make sure the case doesn't have the orange sealant (needs replacement), and ride/maintain it!

Only reason I don't leave the KTM with the motard wheels on it?  The dirt is more fun, and swapping it back and forth (and keeping a dirt bike clean) is a pain (more the cleaning part).

Take a ride on a DRZ before you buy one.   Slow, slow, slow.     I was at Streets of Willow on a 900RR (that's Honda Talk for you sheltered guys), and a 525 KTM and 610 Hooska came around the outside of me going into turn one, right after I passed them both down the front straight.   They were both draggin' knee, and sliding sideways, it was pretty impressive, and I never saw either of them again.  They just took off.  Sigh. 

About the Aprilia and the Hooska, do you know where any dealers are?   I don't.   There are several KTM dealers around.

If your getting just a play bike, go with the 510. But if you need more street-ability out of it get the KTM 690. Ive heard but no FHE, the 510 is more of a race bike, more maintenance, lighter more power to weight. But fun to ride. I bought the 690.Still 62HP and 315lbs but feels like it weighs 200.  I was willing to sacrifice a little performance for ease of maintenance. But this bike rips! Easy to ride, its the best bike ive ever owned. You can see the list of previous bike in my sig. Slipper clutch included!
