is that advisable???
...

From technical/mechanical standpoint, most will say...No.

But Many do it regardless for aesthetic/personal preference with no problems...and a very Few with problems.

YMMV.

Fruity

did some search on that issue. some say, in fact these guys are expert of the business, that by removing the reservoir it'll spill engine oil on the rear tire and that means  [bang]

It is possible to mount the filter higher to prevent spills/spray...

That said, I haven't had any issues.

Fruity

is yours mounted up high? i really liked the way Cellis (featured bike of the moment on the homepage) mod his breather on his s2r1000. he had the K&N filter directly mounted on the breather. wonder if he had problems.

cool !!! is that a K&N filter sold by TPO and a nichols breather? what do you ride? would a 2V or 4V make same pressure in the crankcase? meaning would a 4V spill more oil?

thanks darkstar you've been great help.

cheers.

TPO and a nichols breather? = Yes, and yes.

the nichols breather is one of the better ones. looks like there's some seepage on the filter from your picture. it doesn't get more than that does it?

The crap on top is glue.  That filter has been on there for about 4 years with about 10k mi. with no cleanings.

I've been shamelessly copying everything Dez does, at least in the suspension department.

Here's my new rectifier/coil mounting plate on my 695, freeing up space for the gas reservoir on a 749 shock (not yet fitted).

And here's a photo of the TPO K&N crankcase breather.  I painted the top of mine satin black.

Next step, cut the metal tab that the coil used to mount to off, then respring my 749 shock and fit it.

TPO Kit:

this... is awesome.  I have been looking for a good way to install and hide my PCIII.  Most people stick it on top of their battery, but I think I've got some gas tank expansion issues because I simply cannot get mine to fit under there.  But this looks very nice.  I think I can justify snatching up the TPO regulator relocator kit now  [thumbsup]

just to let you know, theres a difference between the 749 and 749S shock. one is a sachs and the other is a showa.  both fully adjustable, but i dont think the sachs is rebuildable. the 749s is shock is the same as hte 999 shock.

Mine's definitely the Showa, so I guess it's either from a 749s or a 999.

I've actually redone the plate since that last photo, as a test fit of the shock (I'm yet to get it resprung, so it came right back out again) had the gas reservoir just a few millimetres away from the coil HT lead.  There's plenty of length in both coil leads, so I moved it back about another 12mm.  Now there's oodles of clearance.

ISTR you were running a Showa shock that looked the same.  Is that from a 999?  What spring are you using?  Did you have to revalve, or was the stock valving okay?

hmmmm....you got my eyes wide open there  ;D can that actually be done??? how !!!???? coz my gas tank is measely. it says 15L plus reserve but everytime i run it until it's almost dry and top up it's only about 13L.
brilliant if it can actually be done.

thanks.
