Nice work Joel. You must be very proud of your Son and I hope he is excited about what lays ahead in his young life.

I knew a guy from work that nursed a Nike Hercules somewhere in Minnesota for I forget how many years.

He was in the Army.

He was in this small room w, one other person located like 100 feet under ground . That would have drove me stark raving mad.

Just sitting in front of his command controls waiting for the " word."

It was funny to me when his time was up . The Army sent someone to visit him to debrief him which basically meant to " tell him to forget everything he ever learned ."

I hope your boy doesn't get that " gig ."

Any idea what your Daughter wants to do ?

She's gorgeous. If she is as smart as she is pretty ...well the " world will be her Oyster."

Joel,

Congrats. I remember when you initially told me he might be looking at the Navy. I'm glad he got his gig. From what I was told, he'll have one 18 month tour as a division officer before going to Nuke school. Something completely non-engineering related for him to get his SWO (Surface Warfare Officer) pin and some time under his belt. My last division officer from the ship outta Japan was in the same pipeline. She's in Nuke school in S. Carolina right now. If your son wants/needs any information or has any queations, I'm sure I can put them in touch with each other.

He made it sound like he was starting Nuke school right after basic, then onto officer training, I may have heard him wrong. Nuke school in SC then fork and knife school in Florida.
I'll know more later today. LM and I are going up to Sacramento to hang out with him tonight, and watch him get sworn in tomorrow.

Thank you all for the kind words. He is one hell of a great kid, and I'm sure the big crybaby in me will come out tomorrow. ;D

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

No pics because it did not happen today  :(

Thanks to mother natures hit on Tennessee (where the processing computer center is located) they were unable to process him.

Michelle and I drove up to Sacramento yesterday and stayed in the same hotel they house everybody in prior to processing them, so we got to spend a few hours with him last night. We had planned on meeting him at MEPS at noon today to watch him get sworn in, but he called us at around 9:30 to tell up that the computers back east were shut down due to all the flooding. hmmmmmmm water shut down the Navy [roll] [laugh]

So.... we quickly drove over the MEPS , met his recruiter, talked for a few moments and said our goodbyes. :-[

I got a text message from him about an hour ago  say'n he thinks they will be able to run through it again on Saturday.

Fingers crossed.
