yea it doenst look that fast in teh vids either, but i relly dont know how they can loose the rear tht quickly without any sand. ive done some stright up stupid shit and even got caught up on a rope once and slid out the rear at 30mph fully leaned over and once the tire hooked back on, it was fine. shit my pants but fine.
it's really just operator error. You get these frickin' squids who asked daddy to but them a 150+ hp bike for their birthday/graduation/ whatever and they just have no clue about how to properly ride, or they have a beer or three at the Rock Store, or whAtever the make the beast with two backs...
Like Miles posted earlier in the thread about the kid at college who crashed his cbr600 so he got an R1 instead, and told him not to wear a jacket because he'd get too hot,
it's this kind of mentality that attributes to accidents.
This road is freeway close, has
very
affluent communities surrounding it, and easily accessible to the greater L.A. Area, a climate where it's possible to ride 12 months a year, so there are many more motorcycles in this area than just about anywhere else.

Try it on new years day. Hardly anyone there. But yeah, the amount of people that wad up their bikes on the guard rail is astounding.
this is my favorite one:
R6 Crash into guardrail w added Stills from different angle.

was there this past New Year's... Like a ghost town.
Also, Thanksgiving and Christmas are good times too!
As for the vid, even before the stills, you can see he's trying to steer the bike like a car instead of counter-steering.
Washes the front end out.
Who knows maybe he rode a Can-Am Spyder before the R6...

Also, think about it... If anyone even
thought
of spreadin sand on the road in order to cause a wreck, and if they were dumb enough to hang around to watch, with that many riders and spectators there they would be in for the beating of their life!
i don't think anyone said thats what they thought was happening

There is a guy down here in San Diego area that takes photos as well (actually there are a number of them on Palomar Mt. and highway 94) They usually setup on slow corners. The problem is that people see the photographer and try to lean over a lot more than their present velocity will support, also looking at the photographer rather than where you are going doesn't help either.
Pay attention to riding so you don't end up on the blooper reel.

yea Its wide enough to do it at 40mph max, but thats as as safe as you can go on a sport bike. On a monster 40 is pushing it because the pegs are lower.
After watching that video, yea sorry guys, i take everything back. That guy is staright up retarded trying to steer the bike that way. And juding from that angle, you shouldnt need to be that leaned over if you hang off a bit....and stick your damn head out over your bars isntead of hanging around the middle ofyour bike.
this guy looks good, and damn that road looks fun

haha
yeah. he got a large ration of shit for that. I feel bad for the bike, he'd only had it for a month after riding a hyosung 250 for like 6 months. One of those young kids who think they know everything and doesn't listen to the advice the old guys give them.

As somebody who points cameras for a living, my experience tells me inexperienced rider conscious of photographer+photographer is gonna equal bad news.
This in addition to everything already said.
Young men trying to look good and cameras are always comedy. And there are a LOT of cameras on The Snake.

The Snake... The road that has done more to bring law enforcement to Malibu canyons than any other.
No sand, no gravel, and that last corner has great camber, tons of grip, and opens up with lots of room to spare...
Every single rider in that video series had either bad form, or bad application., mostly both. The first guy that smacks the guardrail sure looks like he has NO front brake on! (in freeze frame anyways)
Back in the day, I can remember going around the guardrail turn knee down, at well over 40, although now I tend to restrict my speeds on the street, I can tell you that you can seriously haul the mail on that road, but the consequences are huge, as every corner has a cliff, a wall, or a guardrail, or all three. I ride it every Sunday I'm not at the track, and I'm still AMAZED by the general lack of rider skill out there...
Ive been instructing riders on the racetrack since 1996, and the roads around Malibu are a GREAT way to see what NOT to do!

If you want to get a good idea of the amount of riders that go through that area on any given weekend, checkout
www.rockstorephotos.com
I figured it was ok to post, since there's a pic already up with the website on it.
You'll see some pics of some good riders, but mostly you'll see lots of Calamari.
I remember seeing one pic of a chopper/cruiser couple going around that corner wearing NO gear except for little cereal bowls as an excuse for helmets on their heads. She was lifting up her shirt to show off her, umm... "goods"
as the were going by! I'm telling you, people are frickin' MORONS

Yeah... its hard for a lot of people to really understand the sheer volume of bikes there on a given weekend.. I know that one sunday last year mid summer they went thru 300 CASES of soda.
Really pretty insane to pull it at 2pm on a sunday and see 600 or so motorcycles in one general area!

Pretty much why I will no longer visit the area on a weekend (unless I want my picture taken again...see avatar) I'm fortunate that my Fridays are either a short or no-work day for me, so I get my Monica's fix on that day. Really mellow crowd of old guys (like me!) hang out, tell tall tales, and ride. Just make sure you are off the roads by 3 so you dont have to deal with the commuters. Last Friday, Las Virgenes/Malibu Cyn Rd was like a two-lane parking lot!
