I admire this kid for some reason.

1. He is a Prince
2. He can sit on his ass his entire life and do nothing
3. He hasn't.

He got my respect for joining the military and then raising a stink when they wouldn't let him join his battalion in the Sand Pit.

Well, they secretly got him there until that damn newspaper outed him as being over there, which was such poor form.

Now the kid passed flight school, got his wings, and now will train to fly one bad ass helicopter (however, I am sure who he is probably helped a bit to get him in that training class).

He is doing all he can to get back in the game and serve his country.

I doubt many royalty or people of even privileged upbringings would do this.

Good luck to him.

Princes, particularly those in line for the big crown, are pretty much obligated to join the military. Its so the little people end up saying things like, "I really admire that guy" while they live opulent lives off the backs of people who actually produce things for society. Get some bona fides with the masses so they don't squawk about how useless your family's role on this planet is. Its a good way to keep your head.

And its cute that he want to fly helicopters. But he's taking a spot away from someone who may actually see combat one day. And that sucks. But hey, if the rich kid wants to play soldier for a bit I guess that's better than raping the chamber maids or whatever.

The fact that his handlers manipulated the press adeptly enough to make it look like he really did want to be in the desert doesn't change anything. I guess its even possible that he wasn't in on the manipulation. He may very well think he wants to serve his country where the bullets fly. But mark my words, the crown prince will never ever see anything remotely resembling combat ever.

Was he the same prince that dressed up like hitler? I can never keep track.

I'm not an especially big fan of English royals, but he's seen combat and he has uncles (princes in their own right) who've flown combat missions.

Do you think this means that there will be one less combat helicopter pilot available? I doubt it.

No. There won't be a mission flown with one less helicopter because of this. Its just more resources wasted.

I just can't fathom why anyone not in the privileged classes would look up in admiration to someone who was born on third base as though they hit a triple. Why isn't this thread about Pvt. Nobody who worked his way out of public school and an abusive father and still decided to serve selflessly. THAT dude has a hand I would like to shake. The fact that a kid who owes the very food in his mouth to the people who built his country now wants to "give something back" makes my so-make the beast with two backsing-what muscle twitch. He couldn't possibly "give back" enough to the masses that provide his privilege. His death in combat would be a drop in the bucket of what is owed to the generations of families force to "defend the crown." make the beast with two backs royalty.

Are you aware he fought on the frontlines in Afghanistan or does that not count?

the only reason he didn't finish his tour with the tank brigade is because some rag newspaper ratted him out for being there.

So don't give me any BS about him taking a spot, as he was there with his team.

And I am fully aware of British Royals and them joining the military.

It just seems he actually wants to participate for a reason, not just because it is what is expected of him.

He has already shown he wants to participate and serve his country.

I've seen nothing to convince me that he was ever "on the front lines" or ever in any actual danger what so ever.  You could blame his leaving his post on a rag newspaper. But how would some rag newspaper know where he was? If I was a grandmother worried about my grandson off in some desert somewhere (and my grandson just happened to be the crown prince) would probably have someone from my office let a newspaper know where he was since no doubt he would have to be brought back home to safety if that information was known.

I had no idea Native Americans were able to fly! Is this some sort of medicine man cultural exchange program? Apaches teach Prince Harry the secrets to flying, and some Apache warrior is going to get bangers and mash and a good Guiness?

You seriously want a citation for something that is common knowledge?

Do you know what an "embedded reporter" is?

I'll do the research for you, but I don't provide enough links for you to believe me, go to the popular website Google:

then type in:

"prince harry serving in afghanistan"

I'll save you the trouble.

Will 5 news sources work for you?

Do you need more to believe the kid actually fought over there?

He's spent more time in a battle zone then you ever will. And more than me too.

Its obvious you are ignorant on this topic and wish to not believe anything, so it is pretty pointless to continue the conversation with you.
