Changing the subject slightly away from Monsters and Hypers...

I'd like to see Ducati offer a Multistrada 796 (or 1000 S2R1K motor) without all of the electronic riding aids.  Simple, basic, air cooled.   I know the previous "small" 'strada didnt sell too well (or at all here?), but as much as Ilike the MS1100, it's way too much "too much" for me.

Meets your needs...besides the air-cooled part.  ;D

Love the 848, but naked is what flips my switches.

You might want to check out the new Kawasaki Z1000.  It's a little bit too dressed up for a naked for my tastes (why the designers feel they must add plastic to a "naked" bike, and also black out the motor, I don't know, but in my opinion it's detrimental to the looks) but it is supposed to be a great bike - http://kawasaki.com/Products/Product-Specifications.aspx?scid=6&id=432

I think the original monster look is the bee's knees as goes naked bikes.

Ducati along with other manufactures such as BMW have resorted to keeping up with the Jones.  They make flashy over powered bikes to compete against the other manufacturers.  Bikes that must sell now!  Slowly these manufacturers are pulling away from what made them what they are.  Don't get me wrong there are many benefits to this.  Ducati's reliability has greatly increased.  BMW's don't weigh 1,200 lbs anymore.

One thing you guys are right about, the new bikes lack soul.  I tend to think this may have something to do with how the bikes were designed.  The Monster, 916, Super Sport and even the ST were probably designed with pencil and paper, small clay models and using existing frames with new parts to make a new bike.

You can tell in the model line when the designers began using computers.  The design programs have opened a whole new world of creativity to the designer but programs have added an additional filter between the designer and the final product.

The new models lack the character a hand made product would normally have.

Do you have $30K to spend on a bike  [evil]

I love these;

Check out the down draft intake on what is typically the tank, and the seat cowl fuel filler.  Sweet!

True, but so does a V-Strom 1000!   ;D

A few weeks ago I followed a fellow on one of those KTMs through a local canyon...just a moderate commuter pace.  When he pulled over at a look-out, I took the opportunity tot check the bike out and talk to him about it.  Very nice bike, no doubt about it (and yes, a few notches above the Strom in the all important coolness factor).

I like how you phrased that.  I think the Kawa Z1000 is a perfect example of an overly designed product, full of computer degenerated curves and lines of exaggeration.   I much prefer the clean lines and simplicity of the "classic" monster.

Nope. The naked naked Duc concept. Very mechanical in appearance.
