I want to stay Ducati on my next bike. But all the current models are ugly. I hate the headlight. 796 is kinda sharp, but not a lot of bang for the buck. Some I'm leaning towards a used Super Duke R or an Aprilia SVX 5.5 or should I wait till next year to see what comes out? Any word on the street?

I haven't heard anything but I doubt any all new models will be released next year that aren't based on the current line up.

Is there a reason you're not considering a newer S*R?

I'm still in love with Monsters, but there are a few nice KTMs  Cool  Super Duke R is one of them.

Yeah, I feel the same...at least for the Monster line.
But you mentioned two super motos here, and I think the Hyper is a pretty cool bike, half racer half dirt bike.
Can you check out the Moto Morini stuff where you live ?
I would totally get their scrambler now when I was in the game for new wheels.

I doubt much is going to change for 2011...especially in the looks of the Monster/SF line-up.

Love the 848, but naked is what flips my switches.

I totally agree the new nakeds just don't seem to have that badassness or meaness or rawness or whatever you call it that the older monsters have.  The new ones come of as looking cheap or a knockoff instead of a real naked bike.

I don't dislike the new monsters they just don't speak to me like the older ones do.

for me, I think it is just a will to have a bit more power and just as much simplicity...so if I should be stepping away from my Gran Canyon, I would be looking at the KTM 990 SM-T in a heartbeat...I test rode it and it is the perfect replacement for me.....now I just need to find the rampant excess of cash to pay for it!

I was feeling like the OP, still loving my S2R, but sad I didn't see anything in Ducati's line-up I really wanted next.
But then I just picked up one of these, and now I will remain with Ducati for some time now! (sorry for crappy garage pics, raining for days in Chicago).
Pictures truly do not do the Hyper justice (like the SF), and if you grew up on dirt bikes, prepare to pull a face muscle from constant grinning!
YMMV ;- )

The Monster concept was a one shot deal...it is impossible to improve upon perfection of concept and execution

it had a good run...but market pressure forces companies to compete against their imitators

Now it is all about "Naked Bikes" as a class of machines

You can put an SF next to a 1990's Monster and see that one of them has a lot of the hyperflash and drama...

the other one has the soul

you can stick an old M900 among a bunch of current-issue naked bikes...I know which one will stand out and catch my eye and my initial interest

Changing the subject slightly away from Monsters and Hypers...

I'd like to see Ducati offer a Multistrada 796 (or 1000 S2R1K motor) without all of the electronic riding aids.  Simple, basic, air cooled.   I know the previous "small" 'strada didnt sell too well (or at all here?), but as much as Ilike the MS1100, it's way too much "too much" for me.

I completely agree.  I have had several people not believe me when I tell them that my bike is an '01.  They assume that it is much newer.
