I would have felt more intimate with it if I weren't so busy shifting, had to get up to 5th gear to go 40 mph. :P
(this is a friend's car)

Me thinks you were driving a S2000  ;D

http://www.miata.net/    The be all and end all of things Miata. The only Miata site you will ever need.  Really.  Check out the section on what to look for when buying used (http://www.miata.net/faq/usedmx5.html).  It you get to the point where you are seriously considering one, get in touch with your nearest Miata owners club.  Be warned though, ownership can be considered induction to a cult.  Kind of like this Monster thing  [thumbsup]

BTW, though I mentioned the Gen 1 Miata (NA) in my original post, the second gen (NB) is better, but obviously more expensive...same basic mechanical package, but lightly restyled body.  The current NC is a totally new vehicle (not even called a Miata by Mazda anymore), upgraded in overall level and pricing.

I have a 1997 with the Jackson Racing supercharger. Great car for running around town, but not much carrying space.

Excellent combo!  The 1.8 with supercharger...not too much HP and that extra torque...sweet.  Do you have LSD?

The space thing is what eventually led me to sell mine.  After my divorce it became my only form of transport and it was not easy hauling all of my diving gear around.  Well, I could carry all of my gear by taking the passenger seat out, but forget about carrying two divers and gear, even with a trailer!  Had to rely on others for moving things around, so ended up buying a Mazda 6 Sportwagon.  At least the Miata went on to be properly used:  the young man that bought it has turned it into a SPEC racer (it was a full cage short of spec when I owned it).  The young man is Pete Brock's son, which might mean something to those of a certain age  :)

Why? You want to buy some? ;D

Yes, it has LSD but is otherwise pretty stock. 106,000 miles and still pulls strong.

Sounds like you need to be looking at old vans with no windows...
