Texas........I have no use for it,but there are some very nice folks that live there. Don't get me wrong its like any other state, a few folks I dont agree with upsetting me, but this is a big story that can affect the way that education goes in this country.
And the other thing is The UN. The UN was born out of ww2 and has been used to serve humanity in many different areas. It is a good organization and having travelled all over the world and seeing how its good work does save lives stop genocides help with education, disease, medical and hunger relief for miliions and millions of people I am for the the UN. Teexas in my view is wrong. Maybe one the school board members needs to go to Kosovo and speak with someone whose son husband etc was btually mudered. The UN stopped that with the help of Nato. Maybe they need to go to Darfur to a camp of 300,000 starving people and see how the UN distributes food donated by our citizens, how they clothe and feed and how the doctors save lives on a daily basis. Miracles worked. MI have friends who volunteer their vacation time as nurses to go to these far off places and help for free. And yes my friends ride Ducatis.
The following may be too political a story and you may feel it does not belong. If so moderators please remove and my apologies in advance.

Texas schools to get controversial syllabus

Texas' decisions could influence curriculums across the US
Education officials in the US state of Texas have adopted new guidelines to the school curriculum which critics say will politicise teaching.

The changes include teaching that the United Nations could be a threat to American freedom, and that the Founding Fathers may not have intended a complete separation of church and state.

Critics say the changes are ideological and distort history, but proponents argue they are redressing a long-standing liberal bias in education.

Analysts say Texas, with five million schoolchildren, wields substantial influence on school curriculums across the US.

The BBC's Rajesh Mirchandani in Los Angeles says publishers of texbooks used nationally often print what Texas wants to teach.

Jefferson out

Students in Texas will now be taught the benefits of US free-market economics and how government taxation can harm economic progress.

They will study how American ideals benefit the world bu organisations like the UN could be a threat to personal freedom.

And Thomas Jefferson has been dropped from a list of enlightenment thinkers in the world-history curriculum, despite being one of the Founding Fathers who is credited with developing the idea that church and state should be separate.

The doctrine has become a cornerstone of US government, but some religious groups and some members of the Texas Education Board disagree, our correspondent says.

The board, which is dominated by Christian conservatives, voted nine-to-five in favour of adopting the new curriculum for both primary and secondary schools.

But during the discussions some of the most controversial ideas were dropped - including a proposal to refer to the slave trade as the "Atlantic triangular trade".

Opponents of the changes worry that textbooks sold in other states will be written to comply with the new Texas standards, meaning that the alterations could have an impact on curriculums nationwide.

badgalbetty, go find a politics board and leave your rants there or PM me because I too have traveled the world and have seen things I never want to so much as think about again.

I'm not a Texan by birth but live here now and can say that this State has done some things right and some things wrong......frankly it's got a lot going for it like the economy and real estate but because of the vastness it takes long hours to get to places like Big Bend, Hill Country (depending on where you live) so on and so on.  Although I love Austin the traffic there has got to be the worst in the State, second only to the 405 freeway in Cali.  :P

Drunk rant off.

Back on track. Thanks Dave.
There has been some attempts to pass lane splitting here. I wish it would happen especially because I got my klr going.  Either way I only live 10 miles from wurk so it can't be that bad.

Texas would rock if I were to go so far as to pee on it, thereby making it sacred to all life.

lane splitting is not addressed specifically but falls under wreckless driving in TX........so, depending on the PoPo you might get away with it.  Not self incriminating here am I?

"sober up"??? Blasphemy! Never speak those words again or I'll have Chuck Norris come over from his thread and hurt you. [laugh] Pissing on a flat rock here in TX is not a good idea. It'll get all over your shoes. ;D

I'm really looking forward to finding out more about this.  There is also a rumor that a new track is coming to San Antonio, it will be slightly longer and faster than Harris Hill.  When I find out more ill post up.

What lake are you referring to?!

OK..it was Lake Austin.

Lake Travis is the one that is evaporating (my old backyard).

1/13 piers open last summer because the lake was 20'+ low!!  :-\

I'm not sure about Travis, but most of the lakes in the state have come back up to level...come back with a vengeance
