i love those CZ rifles.  the receivers are supposed to be some of the best made today.  a buddy of mine has one in 7.62x39, which is a great mid range caliber for that gun.

the only mauser action rifle i have that isn't milsurp is a Kassnar "Churchhill Highlander" in .308.  It's a beautiful gun, has a spoon bolt.  The receivers and barrels are made by Breda of Italy.  Kassnar only imported them for a short while, and I think they stopped because they underpriced them -- they only go for around 250-300 at gun shows.  no iron sights tho, it is a scope-only gun.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

The only thing that would make this a better choice for my purposes was if it was 308 or 7.62x39.

I saw the thing and had to have it. It really is a beautiful piece of workmanship.

I got this used and it came with a scope... Nikon 3-9x...they make good optics generally although I have no experience with anything but their cameras.

The rear sight was removed to mount the scope and it's missing. I bet I could get one.

most of the folks i know who use 7.62x39 for other than plinking use the Mini-30 or the SKS with some tweaks to make up for the shortcomings (i.e. it's a military rifle, not really a truck gun).

AIA from australia made an Enfield based rifle using that round.  Don't know if you like Enfields, but I tried it and loved it.  I already have an Ishapore Enfield in 7.62x51, and I am not looking for another one.  http://www.australianinternationalarms.com.au/product.htm  (they don't currently have a distributor in the USA so maybe not an option for a while...)

.223 in that receiver seems kind of small, but i bet the rifle is rock solid.

I've seen all their work and was very impressed, they really put a lot of finish into them.

It is...and it is.

Still it's fine for varmints large and small and with a well placed shot will drop a deer.

CZ chose a slow twist so anything over 60 grains probably won't be the ticket.

I've only had a chance to fire it a few times but the thing seems very accurate.

Like I said, I saw it and recognized it as a quality piece...had to...couldn't help myself. ;D

around me 223 is banned for taking deer, which is bullshit, but that's the law.  imho, to get a hunting license you should be able to make a kill shot at least 75% of the time in a test, but that's just me (MOST hunters are no problem on this..)  (grumble grumble)

i've tried to explain why 1:9 is different than 1:12 and the response is usually "which is better?"  dor.  just use the right weight for the right twist and be happy.

all of my 223 rifles are 1:9 or 1:8.  i like to shoot heavier projectiles, which are great for <300 yd performance.

223 is legal in NH.

50-55 gr NBT should be just about right for this...for any target.

lucky you.  have to use at least 6.5mm here, but all 22/5mm/223/222/224 are banned for hunting anything bigger than 30 lbs. (or is it 40?  i fergit)

i've never used the NBTs but I hear they are very nice.

of course, shooting fish is legal in NH too, isn't it?  or is that Vermont?

Dunno...

It's easier to get 'em with flies or worms.  ;)

Finally got around to shooting our inherited Winchester Model 70 in .270 Weatherby Mag this fall -- I didn't draw an elk tag, but a friend did and was sighting in his guns & I tagged along. Fun day of shooting, and then I went to replace the ammo. Sweet mother of... $45-$85 for a box of  20 cartridges!  :o  Guess I'm going to have to learn hand loading...

Other than that, we've got a box-stock 10/22 in the house (though this thread gives me some ideas) and a single-shot lever action 22LR (Ithaca, I think). While out with the .270, I fired my buddy's lever action .44 Marlin, and have become really enamored of the idea of a gun that can plink with .44 special ammo & hunt (at moderate ranges) with .44 magnum.
By hammer and hand all arts do stand.
