I've got a Benelli Super Black eagle, a Browning Citori, Both 12ga. and a Browning A-bolt 30-06.

I mostly bird hunt, using the Benelli for duck and the Citori for dove, pheasant, quail, sporting clays, ect.

I haven't shot the 30-06 in like 8 years so I'm considering selling it.  What's the best way to do that?  Find a dealer and sell it to them?

I bought a 228 off a fellow on a different forum.  Basically he sent it to my local shop and they did the FFL transfer.  How much are you looking to get for the 06?

Yay Canada! I could make a Newfie joke involving hunting and moose, but it probably isn't appropriate seeing how he did kill someone.

It's not like he killed Mother Theresa.  Plenty of people would do the world a better place by becoming worm food much faster.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

points for old school, but it's basically a low power round.  i like them, but since the load isn't used in anything else, i nevre got into them.

i tried to trim down my collection so i could keep my ammo carry to under 200 lbs when i go to the range.

With the folding paratrooper stock, its like a 30 round pistol!  Fun as hell to shoot.  Kinda like a 1022 but with a bigger bang.

Engage Armament, formerly "the gun shop in Kensington" has an original crate with 5 consecutive serial numbered SKSs still in cosmoline.  Pretty tempting.

meh..  SKS is a great gun, but buying one "unfired" and paying a premium for it isn't wise to me.  they are not collector items (esp the ChiCom ones).  Many of the Chinese models have canted sights too (I have one that requires the front sight to be all the way to the left to be on target... erg).

If you have one that is solid and reasonably accurate, they are the perfect plinking or truck gun.  you'll never get superior accuracy from one, but you will get decent, usable accuracy and good stopping power from the "30 Russian" round.

I haven't bought an SKS in a while (I have 4 or 5 of them, I forgot), but the last time I did buy one, it was $125 for a standard model made in China, with a spike bayo.   I have 2 of the short-barrel versions too, which are much more usable IMHO and one of them is unusually accurate for an SKS with Wolf ammo.  They both have spike bayos which is a JOKE since the bayonet is about 6" long.. not very usable.  The short-barrel models were often called "Paratrooper" models, but they were never used by any military -- purely a commercial invention by B-West and the Chinese dutifully followed.

www.simonov.net has all you ever wanted to know about your SKS, plus Chinese factory codes so you can discover exactly which cons and slaves made your gun!

Looks like I'll have a big brother for the SKS very soon.

Found out my uncle has a Romanian AK that he'll part with for $150.

There's a US company based out of North Carolina that I saw written up in Guns & Ammo that takes Romanian AK's and refurbs them completely and sells them for $350.  Depending on the condition isn't $150 a lot?

This is there site http://www.ioinc.us/mm5/merchant.mvc.  A word of caution though, I've seen online that they were busted by the BATFE in 2004 for selling fully automatic weapons.  If you buy anything from them make sure you're doing it legally.

Edit:  I just checked their site after posting and they jacked up the price of the rifle to $700!!!! I'd say go for the $150.

The full story.
QuoteUlrich Wiegand and others (North Carolina). Counsel for the Wiegand brothers and their company advised in an August 6, 2004, letter that they sell parts kits from which machine gun receivers have been destroyed but the barrels and other parts are salvageable. A federal indictment charged that the parts kits are “readily restorable” to machine guns, even though the models BATFE experts created either came apart after two shots were fired, or were completely remanufactured by BATFE experts, who have technical knowledge and welding skills not held by the average person.

The issue was whether the term “readily restorable” will be interpreted in accord with the rule of lenity to mean a simple mechanical operation, or broadly and vaguely to encompass what experts can produce. The original indictment charged 53 counts of unlawful machinegun transactions involving three types of machineguns, together with unrelated financial reporting violations.

After defense motions were filed, a superseding indictment was filed which dropped allegations that two of the three types of items were machineguns. After further motions and litigation, a favorable plea agreement was reached. On December 21, 2005, Ulrich Wiegand â€" who pled guilty to one misdemeanor recordkeeping violation â€" was sentenced to pay a $1000 fine and one year's probation.

The company, Inter Ordnance, which pled guilty to one NFA count, received a $10,000 fine. Oliver Wiegand, who pled guilty to a non-firearms financial reporting violation, received a $1000 fine. BATFE agreed that nothing in the case would be used to deny an FFL, so the business can continue. Moreover, the forfeiture of the parts kits was dismissed, and the kits will be returned to the company after further BATFE inspection.

All criminal charges dismissed.
No machine guns were involved.
"record keeping violations" and imposition of fines, and probation for one misdemeanor.

More harrassment by the ATF.

Figures that where I saw the story left that part out.

There's a local place by me that is going through the same problems.  Just getting harassed by everyone it seems.

Had my dad check it out for me.  Apparently it's in great shape.  His only comment was: "It's got a cheap looking plastic pistol grip and its just made out of stamped steel.  Looks almost new."

I had to laugh at him, obviously he's never looked at an AK before.

He said my uncle doesn't really want to sell it, but if I want it, he'll sell it to me.   [thumbsup]

Ah I love it.  They make you feel guilty for buying it before you even buy it.  My family does that stuff too.   ;D
